will re-anodizing my barrels affect the true bore size????

i am about to send in my cnc ir3 to pk selective to get it re-annodized dust black. i am concerned if i should send in the ultralites ill be getting to be matched to the gun. as i understand it, annodizing can be from .010 to .0005 so how much will this affect the bore size of my barrels???

this is off the subject but... i chose to use pk selective after seeing their awesome work for the Xmags and the custom ir3s from www.angelparts.com. as i see it they must be the best in the business and have top notch quality if AGD does business with them(plus ive seen their work). am i making the right choice by going to PK for my anodizing needs??? thanks in advance.

I'm wondering this also. Also would it affect accuracy in anyway since you are annodizing over the polished bore?

well i know that when you strip annodizing, the finish of what was underneath remains the same. so if you re-annodize something it will have the same finish as it had before.so i dont think accuracy will be affected by this. what concerns me is that i heard that annodizing is actually dyed aluminum, not just a colored coating over the aluminum. so when u strip annodizing you are actually taking off a VERY small layer of aluminum(as thick as the annodizing was). this is what scares me. if the old annodizing is stripped then that means some metal could be gone too. on any other surface it wouldnt matter, but in a barrel its something to take into consideration considering it could affect the bore sizes quite a bit. and by quite a bit i mean .005 or so. and in my book this is quite a bit for a barrel. the problem is, i really dont know how thick the annodizing is or how much it would affect anything. anybody with any knowledge on this subject, please help!!!

yes. my friend's bigshot is smaller bore than his autospirit because it was annodized. it can also screw up the internal honing too

ok thanks alot. i think dye has some of the best honing and over all precision out there. im not going to mess with that. i think the ultralites on a dust black ir3 will still look really nice. bah, its the same color except the barrels are gloss and not dust.

kev- are you absolutely sure that his 2 barrels werent different bore sizes in the first place?? machining tolerances could have been different too. im just saying..... any other opinions will be appreciated.

Annodizing can effect tollerances, but I have annodized several barrels and freak tips with out a problem. I wouldn't worry about it espesially on step bore barrels and Freak fronts. The front part is usually close to .70 anyway so it shouldn't matter much.

yeh. the Bigshot was originally a .689 and hte Autospirit was a .687. the BS (annoed) is now .685 and the AS is still .687

I'm pretty sure you can have the ends plugged so they only strip the outside material. As in nickel plated brass barrels, the inside is bare while the outside is nickle plated. Ask them about it.

im just going to play it safe and not get them reannodized. im getting the ultralites in the first place because of the tight tolerances. reannodizing them will only mess with that. im getting rid of my freak for tolerance issues. not that mine is any different than other freaks. just freaks in general dont seem very precision made. especially how the inserts never center up right in the barrel. thanks for your help guys.
