Smoking Ban Primer

The smoking ban in Dallas (which went into effect on March 1) is for Dallas proper only, not the entire D/FW area. There is a ban on all smoking in "Establishments" (a word which is not defined in the ordinace) which are open to the general public. The major exceptions to this broad ban are:

a) "Bars" (establishments which derive 75% or more of their gross revenue from the sale of alcoholic beverages);

(b) "Billiard Halls" (establishments which derive 70% or more of their gross revenue from the sale of alcoholic beverages and have at least 12 billiard tables (non coin-operated) for use by the general public); and

(c) an establishment which derives 90% or more of its gross revenue from the sale of tobacco products (cigar shops, etc.).

There are much more specific provisions in this ordinance, but this should give you the general idea. The field is North of Dallas and most of you will be entertaining yourselves in the city of Plano; a city which tried desperately to institute a smoking ban last year but didn't have the legal prowess to do it correctly. Smoke up!

Dang, I guess I shouldn'ta moved from Dallas. Born 'n raised in the Big D. I had to move cuz I got tired of the daily highway Road Warrior Combat Engagements, big cities turm people mean I guess.
