OK, I switched XP user names to an administrator. Then when I opened the vid it said it was trying to connect to codec server. then it said error downloading. I check the thread, d/l and install the codec update. and it still says error downloading.

The in-player autoupdate sucks. Try using the link on the last page and manually downloading and running the new codec pack. I just tested it and the install worked perfectly for me. (of course... it didn't actually install anything since I already had them)Comment

Win98 (original) progress update:
After re-installing Media Player 7.1 (the latest available for Win98 original) and installing the posted codecs, I am still having issues with the video.
Looking for further updates, and external sources.
BTW- what was the source video made with and as? This will help ALOT.
I'm not under the alkafluence of inkahol that some thinkle peep I am. It's just the drunker I sit here the longer I get...Comment

WMP 9.0 is horribly sketchy on any Windows older than 98se. It can BSOD you every time you use it, or worse, BSOD you everytime Windows starts. (if you put it to autoload upon startup)Comment

Quick question for those of you who flew to Texas. What did you do about your paintball gear. Did the Airlines allow you to check Markers, and Tanks?
I'm curious to find out because I may have to take a flight soon, and would like to know how to transport my gear.

Not for Win98 (original). If you go to this page and use the Select Version you will see that 7.1 is the last available for Win98 (original).
I have other OS's running on other machines. I just happened to be using this one, while I was perusing AO today, and besides, Win98 is a stand-up OS for gaming.Originally posted by UTLadiesMan

But I have resolved the problem.
If you are running Win98 (original) first download this file: MP 7.1
If you are using any later version of Windows you can skip that step and proceed to the version 8 codecs: Version 8 codecs
Once you have those, nab the version 9 codecs, which are necessary to play this file as it appears that version was used to create the media. Get those here: Version 9 codecs
BTW- Coffee, if you get the last one, everything should work for you then.

Time for true confessions.
I'm not real proud of this, but I was part of a group that was shooting Tom's Xmag and lo and behold, I chopped paint. DANG IT!! I got it to retro really fast and poof! Of course the rule is that if you break paint in it, you have to clean it...which I did...but if you found some more Ultra Evil Pink on your bolt later Tom, I'm sorry...I did it.
My brother-in-law and father-in-law are still giving me a hard time about it...so I've been punished...
