    fiber tank woes

Anyone know if i can just send my tank somewhere where they can slap a 5 year sticker on it. My tank is 5 year but it actually says 3 years on the tank. Which will be what fields/shops will be going by instead of my word.

    anyone?

How do you know it's a 5 year tank? Was it mfg after June 2001. The info I have is:

"Luxfer, Structural Composite Industries, and Carleton Technologies have all been granted a DOT exemption from a 3 year to a 5 year testing requirement for cylinders manufactured after 1 July, 2001 "

Also, here's a link to a .pdf from Carleton:

on my tank (5 year hydro) it says at the bottom:
"Luxfer Model Number: P11F-11 Carbon Fiber Reinspect And Hydrostatically Test EVERY 5 yrs in Accordance with DOT-E 10915 or 3 yrs in accordance with TC-SI 5134."

so i think if you your number is DOT-E 10915 then it is a 5 year but if it is a TC-SU 5134 it is a 3 year BUT I DONT KNOW IF THAT WILL BE CORRECT WITH YOUR TANK

Why not just test it? Is it that expensive? I don't have a nitro tank, so I wouldn't know.

                  30 dollars

to test a tank around here. go to a scuba shop or a fire extinguisher shop or ask the local fireman where they test theirs.

its not as much cost as wear, because hydro wears the tank... thats why tanks are liminted to about 4-5 hydro cycles.

when luxfer got the ok for there 3yr to be 5yr they got it passed for some tanks already made as you read above.
i would say if the person filling this dont know it your going to be out of luck. probably better off just gettin it tested so you dont have the headache of dealing with it

Yes my tank was made before the 5 year hydro was set, its a nitro duck which uses luxfer bottles. I have sent my DOT # to both nitroduck and luxfer and they told me it IS a 5 year hydro...but on the bottle it says 3 years.

I was just hoping to maybe get a sticker put on it instead of hassling with a hydrotest right now.

i would contact luxfor for a sticker...

or they have a page showing the dot#s and testing years - print that out maybe.
