A 12" Automag Twist Lock barrel isn't really 12" is it?!?!

I am converting from a No-rise (twist lock) to a ULE and have a question pertaining to barrel size.

I prefer a 12" barrel on the mag. Now, the full length of the barrel is 12", but the ball actually enters the barrel through the top, not the back of the barrel like in all other markers (and the new ULE). So in effect my current mag barrel is like an 11 1/4" barrel.

Now, ye fellow AOers, answer my questions.

For the ULE, what size barrel should I get?

Should I stay with an 12" and deal with the extra length or go 10"?

Correct me if I'm wrong. Pertaining to accuracy, doesn't it only take 10" for the ball to accelerate, and everything after that is just for aiming or porting (silence).

Do you even understand what I'm saying?
    Respect that.

Actually it's a few inches less than 10 but basically 6-8" for acceleration, everything after that's just porting (which eats gas but helps with noise etc.)

Best thing to do is to go to a local shop and find out what they call a 10", or 12" barrel and be certain you are getting the size you want. While you're there you can buy it too

I guess it really depends on the barrel manufacturer. I use 14" CP barrels and I just picked up an Autococker threaded 14" barrel for my ULE and it is equal in size to my 14" Mag barrel. I'd just bring your mag barrel with you when you shop for your new barrel and just find one that is the same size as the one you use now.

I don't know if this helps any but my 12" Lapco barrel and my 10" freak are the same length... (both are mag "threaded")

sp's freak mag barrels have a extra inch on them. if you order a 10in barrel you get a 10 in that is used but the barrel is really 11-12 in long they make them so you dont lose any length
