I have found that when firing paintballs, if I do not hold the for-grip forward the gun becomes very quiet but if I do hold it forward it becomes very loud. Has anyone ever experienced this with there Illusion?
    Peace :)

Yes the Illusion is loud without paint, I also did get a 32 degrees wisper barrel and that really helped. The stock one is good but loud.

Is it louder than a Model 98. If it is you have a problem cause model 98s are like little cannons.

Yes, they are loud, so are most other pump:) A ported barrel would help, but not make it a "quiet" gun. Also, you want to hold the pump handle forward when firing (and chronoing) this prevents the bolt from being blown back and absorb some of the energy. Remember Newton's 3rd law?:)

Yes. I remember when I first got my Phantom I thought getting 30 fps differences was bad, as it turned out some of the shots I had been holding the pump handle and some I hadn't

Although if you have a strong pump return spring on there then it should do a pretty good job of keeping the bolt from being blown back when firing.

Thanks for the replies. That puts me at ease. It is louder than my pro/carb. For that reason I was afraid something was wrong.

                    Greetings,
Part of the problem is the marker is optimized for 12 gram usage.
A short, high pressure blast to maximize shot count from a 12 gram when playing stock class has a distinctive pop to it.
When I play non-stock class, I turn the dwell stop velocity adjuster out about 5 turns from normal, then use a palmer stabalizer to adjust velocity.
This coupled with a 14" CP barrel makes for a fairly quiet marker and consistency across the chrono is +/- less than 2 FPS generally.
I also use a revy, just for positive feed.
I usually play against semis, so I need all the help I can get - that and I am old and slow - that last part is the hardest handicap to overcome.....
                    Cheers,
