heres a thought that may or may not help.

within 15 feet of your property line, facing his, place a sign up (that is very visible from his property line) stating that protective eyewear and suggested padding should be worn within 20-25 feet of this sign as a precautionary measure. failure to do so is at your own risk and you hold no liability. photograph this sign, bring to court with you.

this should at least show that you are being responsible and as informative as possibe about the field, and at best, this guy shouldnt hang out within 10 feet of his property line without wearing mask and suggested safety equipment.

in the "freak occurance" you and your friends "accidentally" light him up, this may have you covered.. i would take it to court (if it goes that far) first.

i know people like that who set out to make other people'e lives harder. apparently he thinks that the world owes him something becuase of something bad that happened to him, or hes just a jerk.

as for evidence, set up a camera at the property line to observe him breaking rules and whatnot, and then set up another video camera across the yard focused on the area to catch him if he tampers with the other camera. its foolproof, but, if you dont have 2 time elapse or video cameras handy, ive got a backup plan for you.

if you feel like really getting him back, find some people you know who dont live anywhere near you, and ask them to terrorize him. or just be the same exact way back to him, and say he is ruining your beautiful trees and polluting your beautiful air with his chainsaw

Courts love pictures, the old axiom is "a picture is worth 1,000 words", if you see him with his rifle again "patroling" his side of the fence, take lots of pictures.

Spend some money and put up netting. If he does get hit by a paintball, your playing days at mom's house are over. You need to make 101% sure that no paint can reach his side of the property line. Put up netting and CYA. If the guy is indeed a whack job, he'll just as easily shoot himself with a paintgun and claim you and your friends did it. With some serious netting up, any investigator will be able to easily determine what happened, especially if you can provide them with pictures of the whack job strolling around with a rifle, the court case of the dog with the Evil Eye adds to your credibility should anything happen legally.

The more you do to protect yourself, the better off you will be.

Put up signs that say something like "Anyone within 50 feet of the course MUST wear eye protection! Failure to do so can result in injury. We are not responsible for your dumbass." OK, well not exactly like that... but you get the point. hehe.

Also, put up some netting, mabey some video cameras, Take lots of pics, etc.

The restraining order is a good idea too.

paintball fields can only be put up on comercial zoned land leagaly, so technically he can easily have you shut down, it happened to me and my friends back here

I don't think zoning would be an issue if you take the right stance.

If you are not charging to play and it is you and some friends, I don't see the problem at all.

We had problems like this growing up and shooting (target shooting) in the woods and shooting pellet/bb guns in the yard.

Basically someone in authority has to tell the wacko they have no case, and then you have to keep an eye on them for their stupidity as it usually escalates after they are humiliated.
