Where do you buy scuba tanks cheap ?

Does anybody have a good place to order a scuba tank from ? I'm going to be getting one soon and I need to find a reputable, cheap place to get one. Thanks.

...Make sure you can get it filled locally.

I bought my tanks at a local dive shop. They also fill them for me, even though I don't have a dive card. I paid $140 each for 80cf 3k tanks. I also bought plastic feet-thingies and tank protectors there, too.

That's the nice thing-I'm a fireman so I can fill it at work off the compressor. Just trying to find where I can get a tank at a reasonable price.

your best bet would be to call your local dive shops and inquire about the availability of USED tanks. I'm sure you'll find them for roughly $80 or 90 per tank. They usually visual inspect or hydro them for you and give you a free fill. My friend just picked up 4 of them for $70 each, which included a free visual inspection and free fills for each one. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Much better than paying $130+ for a new one, which is only about a year or two newer than the used ones they sell.

don't buy from an online store or anythin like that, shipping will be ridiculous. It cost $40 for me to get my first scuba tank shipped (took about a week to get it as well). I quickly learned that $130 for a tank plus $40 shipping= 170, wihch is roughly the cost of 2 used tanks.

check the hydro date on used tanks,if they need a hydro and fail you bought scrap metal.
they need a hydro every 5 years, the date is stamped on the tank.

Mine was only 150 new. Then a fill station for 40$ and HPA becomes extremely conveniant and cheap.
Its really good to get two , or talk a friend you game with to get one and split the fill station. You get better fills longer that way.(duh right?)
Also make sure you can have it filled near you cheaply.Average for an 80cf/3000 is 4-5$

Paintball online has them for 150 shipped new. used at the diveshop should be cheaper. instead of cascading, if you have two tank setup, just use one setup for initial fill upto like 2400psi, and second tank just to top off. should last at least 10 fills to near 3k.

                      Local Diveshops

Gotta agree with Paintball8869. Get them locally if you can. Most shops teach PADI classes and they rent tanks. When they start to get a bit tatty they will sell them off for around $80. Just call all your local diveshops and ask if they have any rentals they are gonna be unloading.

                      Good luck,

I too fill mine at the fire station here on Campus.

I got mine from a local dive shop 135$, but what I had found is that alot of people wanted to sell their used tanks for around 80$ and would have to be hydroed soon, so if you add the 80 and the 30 it would be around 110-120 for a used tank so it was worth it to me to have a brand new one, which came with the boot. The guy was a paintballer and gave me a fill card with 20 free fills (worth like 60 buxs) so, it made it easy to buy a new one. I like supporting small specialty stores anyway, if you really wanted to save alittle money the bigger sporting goods stores were like 20$ cheaper (sports chalet). Any good dive shop should give you some free fills..
