Well the time is near, My teams first tourny ever is this sunday (may 4th) and my Birthday is may 3rd meaning lots of goodies for the games, and the best part is, if we win the grand prize, I can sell it to get a mag, YAY! (I belive it's a few DVD players and DVDs) Any advice to us before we head out from you experiennced tourny players?

Be aggressive but not sloppy, shoot a lot of paint and communicate constantly. Expect the game to feel more intense than rec or practice (at least it always does for me). Most importantly, have fun no matter what happens. It's not like the fate of democracy and puppies worldwide, is on the line. Nothing screws up your performance more than getting wound up over a bad call or bad play.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

It cant be said enough.. You got to talk and keep talking. The back players need to be the eyes for the front guys, let them know EVERYTHING. most important is Where are the other teams players, who was shot out from either team, if you see a weakness let them know about it.
Your first tourney out I say dont worry to much about the prizes. Play each game as it is your one and only game that you are going to play. You start thinking ahead you will get tunnel vision and make stupid mistakes (at least we do).
Be agressive, if you sit behind a bunker too long you WILL get smoked. Triangulate players if possible. If there are two people shooting the same bunker, there is a good chance that the opponent will be exposed to one or the other.
Stay tight. Dont expose anymore of your self than required to take your shots. A good tourney play will shoot you in the hand or foot if that is what you are showing him/her.
And my favorite Don't let off the trigger for one second. (that is catered more to the back guys)If they are not coming out of thier bunkers they can not shoot you. And this will give you a good chance to run a guy up to bunker someone.
Most of all, have fun and welcome to the world of tourney paintball!!

When you start getting down on numbers, get your two back players to cross up. Left back focuses on right tape only. Right back focuses on left tape only. nobody'll get through that wall of death and destruction.
Also, if at all possible, get 2-3 guns up and shooting off the break. Shoot lanes, not at people. They'll run through the stream.
Have 2 or more players keep time. Preferably a back player. Viewloader does some good talking timers. Might be something to consider.
TALK. Your front players are pretty much blind without communication. make sure you yell loud and often. repeat calls from left to right to make sure everybody hears. (Expect to not have a voice at the end of the day. I know I don't.)
Stay TIGHT to the bunker. Don't step out unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. If it's Sup Air, use the barrel. Push it into the bunker, it will deform. You'll stay behind but be able to shoot.
Watch your body position. I still have a problem where I'll sometimes lead with my right leg and it telegraphs that I'm coming out.
Lastly- HAVE FUN. They're quick games, but LOTS of fun.
Go steam roll somebody for us!

Depending on what kinda tourney it is... 3man, 5man, etc.. the advice varies a bit..
Since odds are its a 3man Ill talk a bit about that...
Basicaly depending on where your players talents lie, you can be really defensive (ok for teams that have good technique / more "back guys"), really OFFENSIVE (usually mildly lacking in technique, also tend to be more "in shape" teams or have more front guys), or the ever popular combination teams (which usually wait till your team drops a guy to start moving up the field)
Most of this has been covered before but COMMUNICATION IS KEY..
IDEALLY EVERYONE on your team at ANY GIVEN TIME should know: #of people you have left, # of people THEY have left, Locations of both teams players, where the other teams guys are looking (or who theyre shooting at) so you can find holes in their defense, who on you team is reloading, who on you team has a gun down, when/where cover is needed, when its time to cross up the field (as mentioned below), when your teamate is moving up (so you can coordinating movement),and approximatly how much time is left.
ANY TIME a call is made by a teamate or you it IS EXPECTED TO BE ECHOED BY EVERY LIVE TEAMMEMBER* (theres only one exception to this and thats when a teamate makes a key move and doesnt need to announce his position to the other team, assuming they arent aware of it anywayz)
As far as individual stuff: where your going BEFORE you go there, and who you can shoot from there (ie good field walking)
As far as bunkering goes: You obviously want to try and get the guys back so that he wont be able to shoot you back before a ref sees what happend, with that in mind the 3 easiest ways to know where a guys looking at any given moment are: the sound of him firing, your teamates telling you where hes looking, and watching his shadows. My personal fav time to bunker somone is right as theyre sliding in to a bunker in front of me as they usually dont have their gun up in time to shoot back.
Its been mentioned that you cross up when on def..
The only other thing I can think of is you dont ALWAYS have to bunker or snapshoot the last guy. If you put him in his bunker and have enough paint to keep shooting KEEP DOING IT AND SLOWLY WALK an angle on him! Even if you dont end up nailing him you FORCE him to not be able to come out that side of the bunker and can allow teamates to move all over the place on him.
DONT GO OVER THE TOP OF THE BUNKER! LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES! DONT EVER GET DISCOURAGED EVERYONE GETS OUT OR LOSES SOMETIME! Likewise dont ever get cocky, many a team youd think that you would just trample will prove you wrong!
And HAVE FUN!!!! THATS WHAT YOUR PAYING FOR!!!! and on a personal note tourney ball while complicated (Read above) is imho about 20000000000000000x more fun than just a day of recball... Try not to get TOO ADDICTED!

Thanks for all the replys/advise. It's a 5-man, high school tourney, sadly one of our teammates have backed out, we are still going but we have to find another team mate first, still no name although pbp (paintball possey) seems to be the most likely canidate. I'll make sure to keep you posted keep the advise coming, the back player trick seems like it will be usefull thanks again.

From what you said about prizes im geussing your talking about Splatbrothers MAC? If so those prizes are in the Am division...and if this was you first tourney then I def wouldnt play the AM division. You'll be playing against teams like the Lost boys. You dont want to do that. Start off in Rookie, and work your way up.

no no, it's a high school tourney, and I;m not even sure if there are prizes or not, but I remember hearing about a DVD player and DVDs, the hs rule applies no matter what class you play in so we could be playing against pros for all I know (as long as they are in high school)

well we wern't the worst there....and luck was against us...During the first half of the day we were killed, the first game, three of our team mates were haveing equipment issues and the ref made us play with just me and our captain (needless to say we were owned) so that set us bace 100 points(the most possible) the next game we got 10 points but were taken because my gun shot at 287 when we chronod (limit was 250 so 35 pts were taken) then we ended up losing the next two but scoring a total of 20 by the end of the 5th round (so now ouir total was only -5) the second half was good, we took the next match with 75 pts (would have been 100 but one guy was hit on the hopper and didn't realize it) then the next we one totaly with 100 pts, then our last round we only scored 30, so our end total was 200 pts...which put us in 8th out of 9 places...we where only like 50 pts off from the 4th place team so I guess we didn't to bad with 2 people who have never played before, one who has only played once, and 2 who havn't played in 2 months....that and our gun list included 1 stock model 98, 2 98c with upgraded barrels, rocket cocks, X-chambers 2x trigger and adgitated hopper, one E-99, and 1 A-5 with new barrel, DF, Palmer stabilizer, and a double trigger
maybe next time
