how to strip nickel plating?

Does anyone have an easy way to strip nickel plating? Like something that I could buy at Walmart or some similar store (for relatively cheap, doesn't have to be dirt cheap, but don't want it to be a $50 item). I just picked up some double regs for an intimidator for dirt cheap (because hte previous owner scratched the hell out of them) and i want to be able to distinguish the scratches from the peeling of the nickel plating (it' flaking in certain areas).

You can buy stuff online, but there really isn't an easy way to get this done. I had a shop do it for me for 10 bucks, although others said they'd charge me 50. You need chemicals a lot stronger than the lye needed for stripping ano--nothing you're gonna find at walmart, so my advice is just call local plating shops and metal finishing shops.
