well i just thought that since they were negated from your test that they were out of style or something since they weren't worth testing. i was seriously just curious if there was something wrong with them since you didn't test them...jeez. :o

Please read the whole thread... Key phrase: "diminishing returns"

            12" is a "medium" barrel.

We are not comparing "medium" barrels.

We are comparing "short" to "long" barrels.
well the 3 cp barrels you try, none falls into the short category. you have a 5in which by your definition of 8-10 being short, would be ultra short. you can't compare the cp to the freak because they are completely different barrels with different porting and polishing and bore size, construction etc. so of the cp's you did, you don't have an 8-10 in barrel! how do you know if it's less efficient if you don't test it?

                But unfortunately not to all.

Maybe you missed the first post, but I'll say again...

Blanket statements regarding "short" vs "long" barrels such as:

"...Efficiency, the longer the barrel the less efficient the gun is because the longer the barrel the more friction there is to over come to get the ball to 280fps... "

                and

"...Length of the barrel does not affect range..."

                are incorrect.

This thread provides data which de-bunk these common myths.

As far a single bores are concerned, they are not relevant with regard to comparing the best, most common aftermarket barrel upgrades you would recommend.

If someone asked, "Hey, I'm thinking of upgrading my barrel to a 16". Which barrel should I get? I currently have a 10" barrel, will there be any difference in performance?"

                How would you answer him?
                Hey,
First of all,I do give you credit for making the effort.Kudos.It's just that your premise and testing is seriously flawed.I'm not sure about "common myths".As far as your assumptions,I don't know anyone who thinks longer barrels are less efficient than short. Most I know think the opposite, including newbs. As far as range, most newbs think a longer barrel has more range, which as generally true if not re-adjusted to -300fps.

How are single bores not relavent? There are plenty popular singles out there. My Lapcos are some of my Faves.

As far as the performance question,I tell people that length is 90% preferance. There is no real performance advantage to any length. The differances on the whole are to small to worry about.Any "high end barrel system",typically control bore based,is basically equal to any other. They all fall into "very short" of 5-6 inches.A freak with a 16" tip does not a 16 inch barrel make. The only info needed to expain to the average beginner is what "step bore" means. All your doing is complicating the whole discussion by trying to reclassify barrel length by what you assume is the most common type of barrel. That's just plain wrong.Barrel length was,is and always will be based on "effective unported" length and simply needs to be explained that way to clear up any so called "myths".

                Jay.
