      1. Don't get shot, might sound easy to say but if you are at the back you should be in the game for the duration and it will come down to you to close games or lock up the field at the end.

      2. Make sure YOU position your team around you, you will need to keep WIDTH and HEIGHT on the field at all times, bunkers on both tapes and taller bunkers so you (or teammates) can get a view of the field.

      3. Don't trade, it's a mugs game, play the percentages and use your team rather than trying to go head to head with the opposition. I always prefer to shoot people who are looking the other way or shooting at someone else, your team can help put you in such a position.

      4. Playing tight is a philosophy, this should inform everything you do, how you setup your gun, how you stand, how you hold your gun etc.

        Starting tourneys....

Hey everyone, I just read these coments and I have a lot of questions. I am interested in getting a team started and I don't have too many ideas about rules and strategies. Instead of clogging these threads with general questions I was wondering if there are websites that can give me some better advice about starting a team, strategy and tips. I have searched here and got a lot of info on advice, but I would like a resource to go to. I know I can get the rules from the NPPL website and stuff, but what I am looking for is real life ideas and scenarios. This thread alone has taught me a lot, and I would like more info. THanks all.

Best advice is to carry lots and lots of paint, yell your *** off, and watch your front players back. When hes cross shooting, you watch his front and make sure he doesnt get bunkered.

You also need to gain experience through practice and tournaments, it is no good to say 'shoot lots of paint', you have to understand what goes on in the minds of the pros when they are shooting lots of paint.

You can try to imitate certain aspects of a persons game but ultimately you need to fill in the big picture, use your own logic and understand the reasoning behind action, ie why to hold your gun a certain way (to minimise profile), why back players communicate (to give those who can't see much an idea of how the game is progressing so they take it into account when planning next move or action), why they shoot lots of paint (to open a window of opportunity for a front player to move).

Try looking on paintball.com for articles by Pete 'Robbo' Robinson, play tight, shoot and move. Might sound simple but it is a basic philosophy that should underly everything you do on the paintball field.

Its also good to be skilled at 1 on 1s or 1 on 2 or even 1 on 3. If its only you left in the back(it does happen) You should be able to fight them off or keep them a way.

definetly if you're front guys arent the best at staying in the game and playing tight u should work on 1 on 2's and 1 on 3's a lot so that you will be ready for that tiem when it's just u left.....keep ur head on the swivel, play tight and try to take a few with you if you know u cant counter it!!!!

                  Sore Throat Drops...

For all the yelling you should be doing.

When you get down in numbers, the two back men should cross up and shoot the opposite tape. No deviation.

Remember to vary your position in the bunker and where you pop out of.

                  Throw paint like a madman.

Bounce the call from one back to the other.

Make sure at least ONE of your back men is keeping accurate time.

Learn to reload as quickly as possible and be able to keep shooting while reloading. As well as what everyone else has already said of course, but when there are only 2 people left and you stop to reload HALF the field is now open for the other team to walk up.

Also you should be able to rip on an x-valve and intelli so i dont see any problem sticking with that setup.

I learned that in the middle of a tournament down in Florida about 2 years ago. I didn't know anything about shooting down the lanes. After we tried it, it worked relly well, and when my team played team Nasty twice last season, I learned about the crossing up thing from them. Our team lost the first game, and won the second. Nasty's captain came over and told us what we needed to work on and we tried it out, and won. They are an alright bunch of guys, but they do a little too much trash talking

Keep the other team in their bunker so that your front players can move.

Well after watching fast mike from aftershock and marc davis from strange, I have gotten to understand, just how hard it is being a back man. You are basically the eyes for the front player, you must keep the other teams backman from peeking, so they cant tell their front players what is going down. You will be doing alot of yelling, also the other backman on your team, you will rely on to see whats infront of you, because you will be cross shooting down the right side if you are back left, so the other backman knows what is in front of him, he will get his cross and tell you what going on in front of you. Back is pretty easy to learn, but you will get a soar throat .
