Well I was working at our local shop today and had an interesting experience. A local guy came in with a box and said that he had an old gun and wanted to know if we could look at it.
I opened the box and at first I didn't know what to think. It was an old classic feed automag that had seen much better days. The customer told me his friend had the gun in Florida for about 7 years and it had sit in the box in his closet for all that time. The gun was covered in paint and paintball gun oil. All of the barrels were completely worthless, rusted through in spots and the anno had long since came off. The body of the 'mag was covered in rust also and a few parts were missing from the valve. I turned over the gun and saw the serial (CF01701). It was a Classic A.I.R. Valve and had the old style metal single trigger grip frame. It was a classic feed but had the feedneck cut down with the old AGD powerfeed converter. It was also set up for C02 use with a gigantic expansion chamber and the long coiled hose line from the ASA to the valve. He told me he stopped playing about the time he heard about HPA.
After about 15 mins talking about the gun we decided to clean it up. We took some sandpaper and got most of the rust of the body. It was mostly just light surface rust and easy to get off. I took out the valve and it was in pretty good shape. No rust whatsoever and most of the o-rings still looked pretty good. It didn't have a bolt or spring so I threw an extra one I had on it. I lubed some of the orings and gassed it up. It shot perfectly
. We took it out the back and put a couple hoppers through it. No chops and dead on. I was surprised. I'd like to see another gun on the market that could stand up to that and work 7 years later!
I really wish I grabbed pictures but I was so in shock I didn't even think about it. When he comes back to the store I will ask him if I can borrow it to snap a few.
