Flambo is correct... but you can download trial versions online. You can get both the trial version and full versions from Adobe themselves. Here is the link to their trial version:
But I warn you.... just having the software does not mean much in itself. You have to learn to use it..... I am not saying this to sound "lofty", in fact quite the opposite. I have seen too many people think that Photoshop was the key to great graphics and once they had it they would be masters.... only to get discouraged because it is not that simple or easy.
It takes time and patience. But it is well worth it in the end. So, if you do get it, keep in mind that you will not whip out stunning graphics 15 minutes after you get it up and running.
In Friendly Corner I posted a bunch of links to Photoshop Lesson Sites, you will want to check them out as well...
Good luck and have fun!

Yeha I just installed it from my dad's version. Man it is hard. But I expected that. I am having a bit of trouble but I am trying to screw around with it and find out "what it all means". How long did it take you shartley? But you are into computer graphics and stuff though aren't you?

Photoshop is not easy or quick to learn, but as SHartley alludes to, the fruits of your labor will be rewarded. It is a powerful piece of software. Kai's powertools are also a GREAT addition.
Good luck.

You can actually download anything that you want to...you just have to know where to look.
But you'll need to buy it for a legal version.

Oh, I get it... Like someone buying a race car and saying "I am not trying to become a racer, I just want to win the Indy 500."thanks man im not trying to become a artist i just want an rtpro
This is a concept contest, and some part of being an "artist" had better show its head...

Well, you sould ask how long it is taking me.How long did it take you shartley? But you are into computer graphics and stuff though aren't you?
As I have said before, anyone who is worth their salt will tell you that they are expanding their skills every day. I have been working with digital formats and software for about 10 years (teaching them for about 5)... before that it was classic mediums. I have learned that you can KILL a graphic by doing too much to it, but by not doing enough you don't bring it to life. Find that edge.... it is the key. And just because a graphic looks "simple" does not mean it IS... often it is not.... would an onion be an onion without all its layers? But when you first LOOK at the onion you don't see them do you?
As for me being "into" computer graphics.... I am into a lot of things. And just because someone is into something does not mean, in itself, that they will be good at it. I am sure we all know many paintball players that are sure as heck "into" paintball, but they would not be our first choice to team up with for a tournament.
Anyone can learn to shoot a marker... it takes a bit more to be a skilled player. Just being into it is not enough... desire and interest are a good start, but they do not make quality graphics, skill and knowledge do.

Very true. Also learning to use totally unrelated software in conjunction with Photoshop is important. When you use several programs together, you can come out with some fantastic graphics. (Hint Hint for those in the contest... don't limit yourself!) To think Photoshop is the only tool a great Graphic Artist will need is not quite accurate.... it IS however a very important one. And a good place to start...Photoshop is not easy or quick to learn, but as SHartley alludes to, the fruits of your labor will be rewarded. It is a powerful piece of software. Kai's powertools are also a GREAT addition.

Very true.
EVERYONE
This contest is more about creativity than Photoshop skill. There are many programs people can use to create their graphics, and Photoshop is only ONE of them. You can also use CAD programs, other 3D Modeling Programs such as LW Modeler, 3DSM, etc., and a slew of standard graphics programs such as Illustrator, Corel Draw and others. In fact some of the lower end software although it is more limited in what it can do, may very well be just enough for your needs. They may be easier to learn and do the things you need done to create your graphics.. SO in that aspect Photoshop may not be the best choice for YOU for this contest.
Sure, I always suggest getting it and learning it.. even for fun. But lets be honest, not everyone who even gets it will be able to use it well. It goes back to my Paintball analogies..... Mags are fantastic Markers, but not everyone can shoot them well. That is why you see a wide range of Markers on the fields. And a Spyder in the hands of someone who knows THEIR Marker, how to use it, and plays the game well, can be a formidable weapon.
Graphics are the same way... and even more so with contests like this, where everyone entering are not professionals. Using an outstanding program, but one you know nothing or little about, might not actually be the best plan. It is like using a Mag for your first Tournament but never firing one before.. how many balls are you going to chop? And because of that, do you think you will be as effective as if you used a lower quality Marker, but one you were comfortable using and used well?
Luckily however, we went with a good timeline for this contest. It does give 2 full weeks left to learn ANY software you choose, and then one full week to work on the actual entry. This should be plenty of time for anyone who is serious about learning their new software. It will not make them "Professionals"(not even CLOSE), but it WILL give them enough time to learn the basics and what is needed for this application.
Good luck, and I look forward to seeing the entries!
