    My new Bruise

This past weekend I went 'balling and came home with a new injury. For anyone who knows me, I am sure you all know that I am "accident prone."

This by far is the most complex wound yet. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow.

    Let me set the scene:

4 vs. 5, I am on the team of 4. We just got "spanked" by the same group and our team knows we need to take the 50 because this is where we got taken from before. I look around at the 3 other people that can grab the 50 and everyone gives the dumb look like, "Sorry Dude, you need to get it, cuz I don't want to go up there." So, there I am 6'2" 195lbs rushing towards the fifty at full bore once the game starts. On my break I was thinking about doing the quick slide up to the knees (you know the one that baseball players do).

So it begins, I go sliding in, my cleats snag and "POP." <-- I don't like when things go pop, but I wasn't going to give up on my team. There was a slight pain, but I thought maybe it would be alright and it would just be a minor sprain. You know? The kind you can walk off! Boy was I wrong. Well, the rest of the day I became the official team camera man and now I leave you with a picture of my ankle. Like I said earlier, I do have a doctors appoinment tomorrow (Tuesday). I also have another thread of some shots I took, I am going to start that in a minute!

Youch! That sucks, sorry to hear that. Last season, I got hit when I was kneeling, the ball hit the little hollow on my knee, right beside my knee cap, and it puffed up like crazy and it hurt to walk. I also slid on it the game after it happened, and I felt something tear. I just ignored it. Maybe I should have gone to the doctor...

That's awesome! I did something similar to my right ankle a year or so ago. We were playing on a woods field, so there was cactus, rocks, snakes, all that good stuff out there. Anyways, on that field, what I like to do , just because I could (and I was usually playing with a bunch of newer players) is Id run the far left tape. There was usually less oposition closer to the tape, so this one day, in the very first game I pushed through, bunker 3 guys and was high-tailing it to the back corner where I could safely pick off the remaining players. As I came to my favorite bunker in the back corner, (at a full sprint) I turned as sharp as I could to get behind cover as I had attracted some unwanted attention in my gutsy move. Well, as I planted my right foot, I realized (a little too late) that I had stepped on a lose rock. It rolled. so did my ankle. far. I heard the snap and immediately dropped to the ground. I sat the next few games out, then decided that I had spent too much money to just sit there all day. So I got back out there and played the rest of the day. When I got back in, I couldn't get my shoe off...

Turns out I had torn 3 ligaments almost clean apart. I was on cruches for 3 weeks after that. Fun times.

I feel your pain. First game of the season, I was running towards a bunker. I was starting to slide in on my knees when my right leg got caught in a tree root and my knee bent sideways. (you know, the opposite direction your knee is supposed to go.) I heard this nice wet popping noise, and a searing pain. I played the rest of the game, and sat out the rest of the day. The next morning, I couldn't move my knee at all. Some x-rays and some poking and prodding by the doc turned up a stage 2 MCL sprain. I used a brace for two weeks, and was able to play again a month and a half later. I'm a lot more careful with my slides now.

Sounds like everyone else got injured because of terrain. What's your excuse? (This injury happened in the arena at SC Village)

P.S. To his credit, Warbucks is one of the best front players I know.

P.P.S. I should talk trash on you right now for posting that eye shot in your picture thread. You're lucky wee man.

P.P.P.S. BTW, Rob. Now would be an ideal time to take a picture of MY injury from that same game. (Microphone check, one-two-three) It has had time to develop color...

Good luck with the ankle. Last time I saw one that bad was mine. I thought it would be fine and I'd walk it off. After 3 days of walking to my college classes I couldn't stand it anymore. It was broken

The good news is I now have those parts made out of metal!

i don't understand why people play in cleats....i hate them. the spikes get caught and you roll your ankle in an instant.

I wear Vans. Perfect for sliding, not much on the ankle support but have had no probs yet

Get yourself some Magnum Stealth boots. Super comforable, and great ankle protection.

4 years ago I did something similar to my ankle, I'm finally healed up and can go at it again...

I now tape my bad ankle before any day of play.

im also accident prine. but way worse than you guys. i was at a tourny once and i tore ligement in my ankle, twisted my knee, and broke my elbow in games back to back. Im still suffering from my ankle again because i never let it fully heal. but the one good thing about being accident prone is you are used to pain and things that would normaly hurt dont any more(like getting you hand shut in a door.) but i feel ya THAT REALLy SUCKS. If you did tear a ligeament let it fully heal. Trust me.lol well hope it doent take you outa the gaem for long. good luck

Yah, 2 weeks before this picture (on the same field) I tore my knee up. It still kind of creaks, but it survived the day.
