The weight difference between the lightest Evlution 2 battery setup (NiMH 9v) and the lightest HALO B battery setup (Lithium AA Batteries) is ZERO (0) oz. There is no difference. They weigh exactly the same weight.

While the difference between the lightest EVLution setup with Rechargeable batteries and the lightest HALO B/ Rechargeable Alkaline battery setup is only 1.7 oz.

Rechargeable Alkaline AA is a better option in the long run because its cheaper and makes my HALO setup almost as light as the EVLution 2 setup. At $10 for 4 Lithium AA batteries its a lot more expensive.

Rechargeable Batteries used in test:



I had different types of AA batteries so I tested the weights:
EnergizerACCU Rechargeable NiMH (1.2v,1200mAh) = 1.0oz
Sony Cyber-shot Stamina Rechargeable NiMH (1.2v,1750mAh) = 1.0oz
RAYOVAC Rechargeable NiMH (1.2v, 1600mAh) = 1.0oz
RAYOVAC Rechargeable Alkaline (1.5v, not stated) = 0.8oz
Energizer E2 Lithium Batteries (1.5v, not stated) = 0.6oz

Additional info:

The hoppers were filled to capacity, not practical playing amounts of paintballs. The Evl2 was filled to about 6 balls over normal playing amounts, while the HALO was about 3 balls over.

30 paintballs = 3.6 oz
1 paintball = 0.12oz

I just got tired of people complaining about how much heavier the HALO B is compared to the EVL2. I am lucky to have the EVL2 as a backup so I did some quick measurements. At least I know in my own mind that there is very little difference. I had a hunch from using them both but now I have more solid number backing up my opinions. Now I can reply with something more than, "Just go do some weights in the gym!!"

I appreciate the feedback.

PS: My finger was there just to steady the ball in the feed. I knew that might have added some weight to the EVL2 so I jammed the paintball in the feed so it wouldn't move out then I removed my finger and checked the weight again. The weight remained the same and had no effect on the total weight. Although, my finger may have effected the weight, it WAS NOT enough to increase weight from previous readings.

How much paint does the Evo hold compared to the Halo?

As I have always said... the halo is NOT THAT HEAVY

Now try the Halo with Lithium Ion batteries, available in AA but not 9V. The weight difference between Li and the batteries used in your test is about 33%, meaning that you would shave about 2 oz off of your total weight. Meaning that the Halo would be lighter, if memory serves.

Why does the weight matter so much anyway? Is someone throwing it at you??
