Next winter I'm gonna be making a mag from scratch, and I've been thinking, what if there was a program or a website that lets you customize a gun to see what it will look like. It lets you choose the collor of the ULE, chrome or black on the intelliframe, color of the grips, the foregrip, the drop foward, ect. Anyone else think that AGD should create some type of program like this for there site?
Worried your future (custom) gun might look like crap? A great solution!

1.) Would this program work for all markers or just AGD markers?
2.) Will it incorperate all parts you can possably buy or just the more popular ones?
3.) Will it be simple to add more parts and take away ones that have been discontinued?
4.) how will you get all the images and colors to fit?
5.) How will you do fades or custom color jobs?
Now for the hard questions:
Has someone ever done this before? If not why?
If so was it successfull, if not why did it fail?Comment

It is quite possible, IF you want to take the time to do it, especially considering the thousands of aftermarket parts available. Then comes the point of whether or not it would be worth the effort. As for companies or retailers, that would mean it would have to increase sales. That is unless there is some kind, masochistic soul out there willing to compile it and constantly maintain it, for free or cheap. Of course, I could forsee a large, joint effort, where many work under certain guidelines for one goal.
That does bring up another point of keeping it current. That wouldn't be easy with an all-inclusive format."My Jell-O is dying in the audience..."

Actually, unless you somehow take or make the photos yourself, you would have to ask each company to send you a picture of their product. You would also have to give them explicit instructions on what angles to use, lighting, ect. Photoshop is also a good tool but you can't rotate a 2D image in 3D space. The program has its limits. And its not good for getting an exact image of things, its just good for a rough idea.
The most efficient way to do this would be to get a 3D plotter. That way you could get a computer model of the product and scale it or rotate it whatever way you want. Although you would need a somewhat unlimited ammount of time and money.
I'm not saying its impossable I'm just saying its probably not worth the time, and if someone put it something like this together it probably wouldn't be that compleate or work that well. Your imagination is the cheapest and fastest way to get results.Last edited by Guest; 07-02-2003, 08:25 PM.Comment
