    Help with cheap guns

My little bro has been trying to get into paintball for some time now, but he hasnt had the cash. Hes finally gotten around to getting work wherever he can to get money, so he has some now to spend. What he needs is a complete starter package, i.e. loader, gun, tank, mask for around 250, and it has to be new since the 'rents disapprove of him trying to get something used from someone. I was thinking about selling him my RT for cheap cuz I cant get compressed air anywhere in Korea anyway, but I think thats out of his range as far as cost to maintain, IE air and not being able to play anywhere except fields with compressed when he is still in the backyard stage of development. Anyway, Ive havent looked into any of the low end blowbacks for a long time, so I dont know much about them. Theres been a plethora of cheap electros for around 150, as well as a few dozen new companies producing them that Ive never heard of. My first instinct is just to reccomend a good ol m98, I wanna know if he can do better with what he has.

Personally, I'd try to find an m98c and see if he likes it, if he does, he can get a mag on his own terms, but its not worth going down the spyder clone road

i do NOT NOT NOT recommend getting one of those electros for a first gun. it wont teach him what he needs as a newb. a M98 would be great! I hate to throw in the plug, but the stingray is just about as durable as you're gunna get. it may be plastic, but damn, its hella strong plastic. its a little cheaper too, which means he can get a nicer mask, which imho, is the most important item to spend money on if you're gunna play a lot

        hope that helps

I'd say go with the m98c or a piranha e-force, PMI offers very good warranty service and the tippmans are pretty solid to begin with.

Hard to go wrong starting with a Tippmann. I'd agree with the idea of staying away from electros & any Spyder clone. Years ago the Stingray was a good starter gun, but I understand their plastic quality has gone down, same as with the Revys.

For backyard play, a pump would be the best way to go, IMO. He's not going to get hosed down and it will teach him to shoot better.

He should be able to get a good Tippy 98 or Spyder players start up pack for that price. And what is wrong if he starts with a low end electro? Electro is pretty much the standard now, if you think he should start behind the current technology then why not suggest a good pump? He can learn what he needs to know with any marker.

Tippman Carbine or m98 would be a good start since like a mag their preaty simple to take apart and wont cost you a fortune. Like Kev said I wouldn't recommend a cheap e-gun 'cause he'll get in the habbit of spraying-n-praying before he learns the basic skills...plus he probably wont have the dough for paint...Tippmans are nice since all it needs is an expansion chamber and a 12oz, excluding hopper/mask.

go with a tippman. don't even need an expansion chamber they run well on liquid or gas. my pro-lite runs the same summer or winter on co2.

definatly a m98, or a carbine. a 98 is $120, plus some other random stuff, So you have lots of money for a mask. I agree, i would way rather have a nice mask than pay more for an e spyder or something.

Well I dont think Im going to let him get a stingray. He plays backyards for the most part, but he still goes to the local fields every month or two so he needs something that will work there too. I talked to him and apparently he hates m98's. Says he doesnt like how long they are, which means hes looking more into the stacked blowbacks. I was thinking of an ACI Illustrator, because those are the most quality stacked blowbacks Ive seen. Anyone have experience with these?

Go with a NON ELECTRIC spyder... there really good guns... i still have my TL plus and i love the damn thing, never let me down and if it did the oring was easy to replace.. great guns for starters... i find that the m98 arnt very compact and maybey to big for him if hes still just a wee little guys (length wise)
Last week i thought i was indecisive, but now im not sure anymore...
