    A guess would be that the electronics could handle the speed, but the mechanical parts (solinoid, etc) could malfunction/be damaged with speeds over 18 CPS, or whatever they cap it at.

      I hate the rate of fire.

      Gun can cycle forty so Cap is set at 13. Makes no sense...

      Only benifet is safety...

      How can you stop if your throwing 30...

      Thats the potentiol to really hurt someone.

        just getting home from the NJ super 7...fire rates especially on guns with buffering is really scary. i saw a guy shooting a timmy rip a string...lay off the trigger and start running holding the gun by the snatch grip...AND IT WAS STILL FIRING WHILE HE TOOK THE FIRST 3 STEPS. stuff like that is scary and needs to be fixed.

          they cap it probably because they dont want someone to be able to buy a gun and lay out 50 balls in 2 seconds and the person sticking out takes a total beating.

            Well, I think they cap the boards because there is no loader that can keep up with 30+ BPS, no human can possibly fire that fast in semi-automatic mode, and most markers (few exeptions-mags) can't recharge fast enough to keep velocity consistent.

            *edit* Ok, there are a few non-human people out there who shoot insanely fast, but the loader still cant keep up.

              The Cap actually started back a few years ago (2000 I think) when the indusrty met and made a gentleman's agreement to cap the guns at 13bps. Well...some of the industry leads were not very gentlemanly like. AKA was the one company that kept with this 13bps cap until recently.

                  CPS = cycles per second

                  it is the number of times a gun can fire WITHOUT paint in one second.

                    They should cap at it at least 20, something most people cant achieve but still not insane (well, not relatively insane)

                      Used to be....capped to allow reliable feeding and function for a given design.Imp for example,13 w/ no eye(saves on chops)and 20 w/ eye (faster than you can pull or feed)

                      Now.....Capped at 66.6 'cause dumb newbs think that's how fast it will shoot.Or like WAS,1 million trigger scans w/ internal buffering so that EVERY MINISCULE amout static electricity will register as a trigger input and cue semi auto fire equal to a FA gatlin gun. and since Jim sits on the ruling board,is some how Tourny legal.

                      Jay.
