which is more important, front or back of barrel

which is more important, front or back of barrel? i could see two arguements.. front cause its the final release, barrel because of initial spin.. whats more important

Back: paint to bore match is the most critical in a barrel system.

Back - kind of. Here is the continuation of the earlier comments - of the adjustable systems it is always the back that is adjusted... the front is a larger bore than any of the fronts...

Then again, I use one piece barrels to get a full control bore.... but that is not necessarily to my benefit. Those who know fluid / air dynamics might be able to explain it better

It depends whether or not if you have a barrel system or two piece barrel or not. If its one continuous bore (most one piece barrels and some two piece) then it wouldnt really matter which end is more important. If its two piece, and the bore is bigger in the front (which is usually the case) the back is going to be the more important end to match your paint with. In a barrel system, obviously the back will be the most important end, the rest of the barrel just keeps it going that way and to have the porting.

The "front" part of any stepped-bore barrel (whether one-piece like the old Jacko Infinities, or two-piece like the DYE BoomStick, or three-piece like the Freak) is almost totally irrelevant.

Being larger in diameter than the actual barrel portion (most DYE and Freak tips are about .700" bore, sometimes as large as .710") the ball doesn't touch it, and being both larger and heavily ported, the gas pressure pushing on the ball has all but completely escaped by the time the ball has passed the seam and/or first set of holes.

ALL the front portion of the barrel does is quiet the shot a little- it acts as nothing more than a "muzzle brake".

That's it, period, end of conversation. There is nothing at all to be gained, in range, accuracy or performance, from an 18" BoomStick instead of a 10" Boomer- the back part is the same in both, and that's the only part that has any effect on the ball.

                Doc.
