new Emag and bad on/off o-ring

I just got my brand new Emag the other day and got to take it out for a test spin today. All I can say is WOW !!!! This thing fires so fast and smooth I'm gonna have to get a 2nd job just to pay for paint !! It's incredible !!
The only problem I had was when I chronoed it there was the ole lawn sprinkler leak coming down the barrel. I took it apart and found a black rubbery o-ring in the on/off. I replaced it with the teflon (the hard white o-ring)and the gun doesn't leak anymore. Does anyone know why that type of o-ring was in the on/off ? I've never seen an o-ring like that anywhere on an automag before. I was also surprised that I had a leak right off the bat when I bought it. Oh well. Other than that, nothing but praise for the greatest gun ever built !!! Go Airgun.

That's called a "quad" O-ring, and I believe they are unique to the E-Mags' valve.

No, no... don't use a teflon o-ring. Get an RT parts kit and use the urethane o-ring that's the same size. You might experience bolt stick every now and then, though. This is why they use the "quad" black o-ring.

I used the o-ring from the RT parts kit that looked like the same size as the black quad ring. I wonder if that's ok ? If I'm only supposed to use the black o-ring, then they should sell a parts kit that has that o-ring in it.

Well, if you used an o-ring out of an RT Parts Kit than it's urethane. Teflon o-rings are for Co2 use. The black quad o-ring is for E-Mags only and they don't make an E-Mag parts kit. If you need more of those quad o-rings, then call the factory. They are known to wear out more often than the standard urethane o-ring. The gun might work perfectly fine with the urethane o-ring. See how it performs, but if you do get bolt stick, the problem is that you need that black quad o-ring.

Why are they using the quad o-ring? Aren't they supposed to be the same as the Retrovalve kits?

Cos I know the retrovalve kits don't have a quad o-ring in them...they come with the urethane ones. (referring to the retrovalve upgrade and not the parts kit.)

              Ok several things here.

The quad oring was used because of small issues with teh E mode on the Emag.

The normal orings are cast, and as a cast part they have a mold line in the sealing area. This mold line would sometimes cause the trigger to "stick". By switching into M mode and puliingteh trigger once it cleared up the problem for a while then it would return.

The "Quad" oring is cast but because of its shape the mold line will no contact the on/off pin. This also allowed the uses of a slightly shorter on/off pin because the sealing area was lowered with the lower lobe of the quad oring.

AGD is working on new parts kits. Adding Quad orings to the RT parts kit, making a Flatline Parts kit etc, they just have a ton of stuff to get out the door first.

If you need the oring just call and ask for them. Remember AGD is 12 people most of which are in Production.

              added later

The red areas are the casting flash. These are cross sections of the orings. The on/off pin will hang up on this flash on teh normal oring, but on the quad its nothing but net baby...
