    Mystery of the butchered Mag!

Ok a buddy of mine bought a used "upgraded" Mag (oh boy). Anyway the thing came with a Benchkmark frame, ANS Venturi Bolt(yikes) and a weird lookin' on/off valve. I lend him my stock bolt, and that "fixed" his velocity issues. His valve body was a fairly recent Serial #.

But what got me is the on/off assembly. Instead of a 3 peice on/off like the stock (brass valve, ss o-ring housing, ss pin), his on/off was a 3 peice(all ss valve intergrated into the o ring housing, ss pin and a cylindrical cap). I noticed his trigger pull was a lot squisher than my stock, which is snappy. I figured it is characteristic of the trigger frame, but im not sure. Regardless i told him to come on to AO, and get himself a stock valve and LX.

Any ideas on the Brand X On/off? Heres some pics.
    Thx for your help.

that on/off looks like the stock on/offs from early mag's. Not sure what year they changed it, but we used to file them down for better performance.

Thats what it looks like to me anyway, old style stock on/off.

How come the only decent parts for mags come from AGD?

no one else is smart enough to figure out how to actually improve the performance. Only people who take the efford to rd and ideas can make good performance parts. No "high flow valve" or polished internals to really put on a mag. You either build a new powertube assembly, new valve assembly, or new on/off assmelby. All of those built didn't have any performance gains unless they were AGD made. And those were all new levels.

I used an ANS bolt forever and then sold the mag to a friend who still uss it. The bolt worked flawlessly, never chpped a ball, and I never put the foamie on it. I don't understand why everyone bases them. Now that I have a LX Retrovalve I am having velocity problems, but that is only when i use my "best preset according to AO" Crossfire. I think that people's opinions here are just that, opinions.

man... it's the best preset according to everyone since that's what they advertise. Ever consider that?

Also, about your velocity problems. You've gone over your lx setups and tried multiple ones right?

Nope you don't. You don't need the ULT. This is a want. Same with LX. I used my minimag without LX and didn't have problems. These are wants, not needs. There is a difference.

Many aftermarket parts influenced AGD into fixing Mag problems.

Aftermarket ON/OFF's were designed to increase flow which was restricted on original design.

"8 hole Mod" was develped to fix alignment problems that occured with the Reg/Valve assembly.

ANS bolt (foamie) was designed to help with chopping issues.

All these as well as others have now been fixed by AGD but who knows if or when it would have happended without the outside push.

                        Jay.

Nope, the old on/off was only different on the top. The rest of the assembly was the same. Here is a pic (newer on the top, older on the bottom)

                            new ones = reversable.

old ones had to be put in with the right side up.

BTW, I believe you have a Reactor On/Off assembly there.
