    Troubleshooting Intellifeed

Hello. I have a few questions before I attempt the Intellifeed modification. First, what would I do if the Rev just keeps on spinning once the mod is done? Also, what would I do if the Rev stops working? And what are the best tool(s) for revoming the outer layer of the wires? It seems very hard to get that layer off without cutting the internal wire.

My next set up questions involves the pictures below. On #1 and #2, is Tom just pulling the outer layer off with his finger nails? Or did he cut it? In #3, is that a knot of some sort around the switch? Or do you just wrap the wire around it? Lastly, in #4, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!??? I just took my Rev apart to see that orange wire and it is really skinny! How can I get that small piece of orange off the wire without damaging the wire internally?

If anybody can answer ALL of my questions I would really, really appreicate it. Thanks.

P.S.-I have asked 6 questions, so hopefully I can get 6 answers.

    Lemme give this a try...

First, what would I do if the Rev just keeps on spinning once the
mod is done? Also, what would I do if the Rev stops working?

For the first half, I tried to intellifeed the revvy, and it wouldn't stop spinning or wouldn't work, depending on the contacts I tried. I tried every single possible combination of contacts on the board, and nothing seemed to work. I think its the ghetto radio shack parts, maybe. If this happens, just take off the wires and it should work normally.

And what are the best tool(s) for revoming the outer layer of the wires? It seems very hard to get that layer off without cutting the internal wire.

I've found over time that the best way to strip the end of a small wire is using my teeth. If the insulation is stretchy and doesn't like to break off, I roll over the wire with a pocketknife blade where I want it to break, and then pull it off with my teeth. The advantage of teeth is its easy to adjust how much pressure you are putting on the wire. It's always worked for me. I've got another wire-stripping tip to add in a bit for another question you asked.

On #1 and #2, is Tom just pulling the outer layer off with his finger nails? Or did he cut it?

He probably cut it first, although it may be possible to just use your fingernails. Refer to what I said above.

In #3, is that a knot of some sort around the switch? Or do you just wrap the wire around it?

Just thread the wire through the hole, and neatly try to twist it. If you have any soldering skills (its actually very easy when you remember to use flux), just solder it.

Lastly, in #4, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!??? I just took my Rev apart to see that orange wire and it is really skinny! How can I get that small piece of orange off the wire without damaging the wire internally?

Here is another way to strip small wires when you can't use your teeth. Take a really sharp blade (Xacto knife, razor) and shave off one side of the insulation down to the wire. then you can pull a little loop of wire out and cut away the rest of the insulation away from the wire. If you are careful with the blade, its very hard to damage the wire.

I'm sure Rob will say I'm doing it all wrong, but these ways have proven to be effective time and time again, and I've seen numorous students and teachers at NJIT use the same things in circuits classes

about the first part about spinning constantly, you might have to bend your roller switch lever down a bit, the problem may be that the switch is constantly in the "on," depressed position.

As for stripping the wire, pick yourself up one of these:

yep you should be fine. Just go easily, and make sure you are very careful with the wires.

I have a question also, the intellifeed bypasses the delay of the board correct? This may seem stupid, but it ONLY spins when the microswitch is activated right? There is not delay? So when you pull the trigger fast it just slightly spins? I'm almost positive that the eye still works and all, i don't see why it wouldn't, but just to make sure...?

          Thanks dudes
