    Paintball Science Project

My son is doing a 7th grade science project. We need to find the mass and density of Brass Eagle, ZAP and Core paintballs. Does anyone know where I might find this info? Do you know anyone who has done a project like this before I might contact? I have tried the manufacturers and so far only Blaze was able to give me info.

    that is so awsome... lol

anyway about paintball weight.. get the paintballs.. run into Giant or some local food store.. put it on the scale.. get the weights write it down and run!

or at schools they have scales... i am sure teachers won't mind student getting weights in before/after school..

Do you mean the density of the fill?

If precision isnt your thing, then realize that paintballs are .68 caliber and do the math, take formula for volume of sphere and to find density do mass divided by volume.

Not the most precise method(because alot of the weight can be attributed to shell. You could always sepearte and dry the shell later and subtract that from the mass.

You need to stop helping your son and make him do it himself...I didn't even get help when I was doing a 3rd grade project. Seriously though, he'll need to learn to do it himself. Hell, I remember when I cut my first Pinewood derby car for cub scouts, I didn't even get help with the bandsaw, and I had never touched one before.

Well youre going to want the mean mass and density since each one is going to be slightly different. Weigh a nice round number like 100 of each, then divide by that number for mass. Then to get volume, fill a bucket or something up to the very top with water, put it in another larger bucket, and dump the 100 paintballs in the water. Then measure the water in a beaker and divide by 100 again and youll have volume. Then density is just mass/volume. Good luck with the project.
