    Tom - Re:Superbolt Wear ?

Ok, i really want to get a new superbolt, but the thing i'm wondering is, how much can delrin help when all there is is a metal spring rubbing against the delrin. I can understand when a delrin bolt is moving on a solid surface, like inside an aluminum body, but in a mag its moving against another moving surface thats not even really a solid surface. Does the delrin really help on that type of surface?

Also, have u tryed changing the spring in some way, so there isn't so much wear? Perhaps coating the bolt spring section that touches the bolt, with some sort of coating like delrin so its delrin on delrin. Or making the spring like a slikey with a cloth covering, so it looks like an accordian in a way. Just wondering if something like that would help decrease the wear problem, that picture of the eatten one from a broken nubbin gets me scared.... and I'd rather not have to pay $20 a month or so on replacement sleeves

IF I remember right -the delrin isnt for its less friction quality like inthe cocker etc, - but for its weight - or lack there of. The lighter bolt reduces recoil.

The only purpose of the delrin sleeve is to better assist in sealing the bolt down the barrel so there is less blowback and to reduce the weight, which in turn reduces the recoil.

As for wear, properly deburring the end of the coil at the end of the spring and honing the inside will greatly assist in reducing wear.

Also, switching to plastic nubbins will reduce the wear on the end of the sleeve and eliminate the chance of having a torn up sleeve as seen in Gunga's post.

I think people are taking the concept of replacing the sleeve out of proportion. Surely, over time the sleeve will get minor surface wear, but it doesn't mean you have to replace the sleeve just because it has some scratches on it.

Why don't they use a nice smooth ROUND-SIDED spring instead of the square sided one?

they do that so it compresses all nicely and doesnt collapse on itself like a round one would(i think)

The Superbolt is lighter for less recoil as it's main benefit. It does reduce some blowback because it's a little tighter but that is not the main thing. It is a LOT tighter in the Extreme's because we know the size of the breach. We use the square spring so it is stronger in the same space and does not collapse into itself.
