Just got my Y-Grip... not sure what to think.

Y-grip. I had wanted one sence i saw them for the first time... they look so natural and comfortable. I got it today and was so excited! i tore open the package and my initial thought was... what the heck. its really chunky. I put it on the mag and damn it felt good! wow. i really liked the way it felt and the way your wrist is when you hold the gun. then, i put the flatline back on (standard stock flatline drop.) after that... i went to shoulder the gun and it was way different. my arm bends around the tank way to much... I think that offsetting the tank to the left would totaly solve the problem, but as of now, its really uncomfortable to hold. (a rail might also work, but the tank is just in a weird position in relation to the grip) Anyone else have this problem? anyone NOT like the y?
    what did you do?
    thanks

yeah i dunno... ive just spent some time witht the tank off, and im not really sure how to hold it... the only way i hold it that seems comfortable, is to have the top of the grip resting on the area between your thumb and first finger.. that cradle type area of your hand. (if you try that with a y, you will find that nothing else is touching the grip... i still am not sure what i want to do. i think if the trigger geometry were shifted back to the same angle of the grip, it would make a huge difference... kinda like the z...

mossman...i might take you up on that... (really wish it were gloss black... )

When I got my Ygrip, I just got rid of my drop and put the tank right on the grip. Even with a 88 4500, it still fits the gun perfect. I measured and I believe the Y grip is about 1 inch down, and 2 inches forward from the standard grip. Plus with no drop, your wrist won't stick out and you can play tighter.
Sadly the mag is gone, moved on to an LCD Trix

I think im going to get the kapp dropzone dovetail and the dovetail mount for my flatine and offset the whole rig to the left. I really want it offset to the left. There are really no options but the dropzone dovetail (well warped sportz makes a really nice rail like think called the drop kick that offsets to left and right and centers it too... really nice lookin' but no one has them....)

Ive held the Y frame. My buddy dave loved his let me hold it once. Needless to say wadnt my cup-o-tea...but im a hardcore Z-frame nutcase. He oved it and never had any trouble shoulering it. As with all new parts to a gun ya have to find the spot where it all comes together. in this sence you have to find that perfect shouldering location

course you could do like me and get a Z-frame then a KAPP DZII and drop the thing about oh 9 inches forward to the point where your valve sticks out further than the tank.

              I LOVE IT MUWAHAHAHA

benchmark makes some pretty nice offset drops. they're alot cheaper then the Kapp DZ.

A sidecar cradle is necessary for getting the full "effect" of the Y/Z-Grips.

I think that I am going to check out Datapimp's new rail drop when he get's it ready. It simply drops the tank straight down. It will give your wrist some more clearance over the top of the tank without offsetting it. Although, I agree the Y-grip would be more comfortable with an offset tank.
