    Well Tippmann did something dumb

We changed the ID and OD of the receiver and the barrel threads of 98 Customs about two weeks ago. All guns with serial numbers above 495,501 will not accept the old style barrels. All barrels being made now, have the new style thread. However, all new barrels will also fit older guns regardless of serial number. If you have an aftermarket barrel with the older style threads, it will not fit the new receiver. We suggest that you contact your supplier for a new style barrel that will fit. All barrel manufacturers were notified of the change long before we ever made any changes.

Sooo theres going to be 2 different kinds of m98 threads for the same type of gun.....neat eh?

I really wish we could all go to cocker threads. Do you think Bud would mind?

This would be one big step in turning PB into a legit sport instead of a money makeing venture. SP and DYE would crap their pants!

M98 cannot use fine barrel threads (cocker) because the body is made from cast aluminum. "Precision" and "cast aluminum" do not go well together...

yeah, the tippmann threads are huge. it takes like 3 twists to get it off. then again, it takes 1/2 a twist to get my barrel off, so i guess that doesn't mean anything.

But if you half twist groove is off by more than like 0.008 in or so your screwed, tippmann can get away with much more.

the only reason tippmann did this is because people kept screwing their barrels in crooked. by adding one extra turn, it makes it harder to misalign it.

I believe they should have gone with a System like the A-5.........They could have designed a breach type system that the gun halves clamped on. This would have allowed one to use any barrels you want.........espcially after Colin at Lapco made the adapters like he has for the A-5.

It should be noted there are several variations of cocker threads, I personally have had 2 barrels that would ONLY screw into older bodies.
