3 jailed for paintball terror training ....

What do you all think of this story? I wish they went into more detail ... the story doesnt even go into any detail ...

Hell I know some online Rainbow 6 players that could be accused of training for terrorism ...

From what I read of it the paintball was a very small part of what they did. The convictions seem to be Firearm related not paintball. Not that they didn't train using paintball and the writer chose to sensationalize that part....but that was not what was illegal nor what they seem to have been convicted off.

Better question is why did this Journalist decide to "up-play" the Paintball angle and downplay the real guns and why they were training! Missleading journalism it is. Not anything new. But he thought for some reason more people would read it if he put paintball in the title. Or maybe he wants to somehow link paintball with evil intent. Who knows.

Paintball is only mentioned 3 times in the article. I really don't see how that is "sensationalizing" the sport. Yes it sucks that these guys were using a paintball field to train on and it definitely is disturbing that they were training for actual terrorist operations but I don't see where the writer blew anything about the sport out of proportion.

                    Heh.

I get a fair amount of phone calls from the press seeking comment about all-things-paintball. Month or so ago that including a guy from the Wall Street Journal calling to ask about how paintball had changed in light of the government's crackdown on terrorism, citing the Virginia case specifically. Apparently some hobby groups, like model rocketry, were having a lot of extra scrutiny lobbed at them by the FBI and others.

I, of course, assured him that there was no story.

Tom was the last of a now extinct breed, a breed of players who build a community, a breed of owners who gave to the sport never taking more than what they deserved. I hope to see you at the feild again some day....

The funny thing is, firing a paintball marker and a real gun are soooo completely different that I would say if you ever became proficient with a pb marker you'd actually have a difficult time getting used to using a real gun afterwards.

Lol, I can just picture it, a Marine on the range, trying to walk an M16 trigger...

                          uh..

This is how paintball started; as a "para-military" activity that was fun and non life threatning. Using it for terrorism training sounds like it would be useless to me ( I was in the USAF for eight years, but not involved in anyway with counter terrorism)

There are combat handgun courses and compititions that would be alot better suited for this, as you actually have to shoot "bad guys" and not kill the "innosents" WITH REAL GUNS AND AMMO!!! I guess it is more a counter terrorism traning, but team tactics is team tactics.

As was said earlier, Rainbow 6 is the best way of training with out ever having to fire a shot I have ever seen. Use those tactics, with real firearm training, and the pysical ability needed to do the mission, and you would be able to make what happened at columbine (I am sorry for the people taht were at that tragic event)look like amature hour.

It is scary but true, any tactics based manuvers, INCLUDING paintball, can be used for tactics training. Then you train with the proper equiqment (real weapons) and you become a "trained killer" as the military loved to call us.

No. I dont hate immigrants. I hate terrorists. 99% of all immigrants do what they are supposed to when they get here. Its that other 1 % we need to take care of.

And believe it or not, there are "Train enthusiasts" that gather to watch trains go by. Now they are being watched and made to leave when they gather as clubs to watch. Also people who watch planes take off. All things that might be suspicious are being scrutinized and these fall into that category. Dam terrorist!
