Just taking a guess here - but I've always wondered if the "closed-bolt" myth started back in the early days as a bleed over from the firearms world where closed-bolt and bolt action guns are considered (and typically are) more accurate then semi-auto and open bolt guns...

Regarding what tom said about blasting the air to one side... I have a PGP and if you look at how the air makes it's way to the ball, it's not exactly a "straight" path path either. Yet it shoots pretty straight with high quality paint. note: the air does not travel through the bolt on a PGP.

Well that is why the best answer to the question "what is the most accurate Marker" is realy correctly answered by.... "whatever Marker your most accurate with".

Picking nits, Jack All paintball guns fire from a closed bolt as well (except the SMG60), but that doesn't stop us from calling some one thing and others another. Of course SP invented "sealed forward technology" - so now it's even better By open bolt I was referring to gun ranging from the MAC10 to the M60 that chamber, fire, and extract in a single cycle vs. semi-auto the fires,extracts then chambers.
