Hey all, I just finished the end to a very very very lengthy process of building a 'custom' mag. Over the last few years I have been saving for a new paintball marker, because orriginally I was getting fed up with my old spyder. Every day I would go to the field and gas it up and BLAM! it wouldnt work. While I was saving however, my gun maigicly turned perfect, and worked like a dream 100% of the time. It was quite the spyder, all aftermarket with a very nice homeade trigger job.
But thats not the point.
The point is I had some cash saved for a new gun, so I continued to save, and research. I browsed just about every gun there was to buy, considered the pro's and cons of each. For some reason Im not a fan of electro's. I dont know what it is, but I can never see myself firing one, that ruled out about 3/4 the possibilities.
It really came down to mags and cockers (I wasnt looking for a pump or another blowback) I eventully was directed here and learned the joys of the Automag, I was very drawn in to the Fact vs. Hype, and realized how true it is that 'Cockers never work and 'Mags always do. That did it for me, right then and there. I really wanted reliability more than everything (See spyder comments above)
So I started browsing through the massive pic thread to decide what I wanted. I fell in love with the MicroMags, not only at their uniqueness but also at the fact of no body rails and cocker threaded barrels. Also, I LOVED the satin black. I had in mind this incredibly nice satin/chrome mag, of which few I had seen.
Over the time of saving I worried about having a non AGD product and such, and ruled out the micromag. At about the same time Sluggo bodies came out and I saw the frist 3 designs (PBX, Chord v1, and XtreemDepot) Had a tough time choosing, but chose chord body because it was the only one that seemed to stick around.
Then it seem everything hit at once, ULT's, X Valves, y-grip, LX (I Think)
I decided on all the best parts (Xvalve-LX-ULT-Chordv2-Omega rail-ygrip)
My first step was getting the chord body, because I wanted Tunaman to make this for me. He said he didnt deal with the chord's and I would have to buy my own and send it in to him. Fine by me.
So I contacted Nicad and ordered myself a Chordv2. He even accepted my request to have it annodized, because he was looking to start offering them annodized and wanted to try a certian guy out. He gave me a great price and all. But unfortunatly problem after problem after problem happened, and I probly waited 2 months for it at the annodizer. FINALLY it was done.
During that time I ordered some small parts offline (Drop and on/off, foregrip, lo-rise) and bought an old Xcell barrel from my friend. When I got the body it was off to tuna.
Tuna was great to work with and hooked me up with everything I needed. The only problem was the long wait for the y-grips from AGD. That took about another month and finally....
THE GUN WAS MINE!
The pics tunaman hooked me up with do the gun no justice at all. The thing is absolutly beautiful. Unfortunatly this gun cost me an arm and a leg all in all with everything from everyone and shipping and such, it totalled around $1,000.
Saved my spare money for about a year and worked full time to pay for this (And a year of car insurance) So when it came I had no money to go paintballing with. Boo.
Finally yesterday (Sunday) I came into some cash from my birthday (Wednesday) and I went out to the local field to give it a go.
But I gassed it up and............ it started leaking.
So I checked everything and realized it was a problem with my on/off, I bought an empire which eveyone tells me is the best there is out there, and it seems to have this problem screwing in and out when its pressurized. So I fiddled with it some more and got it working. Now that plenty of pressure was going into the gun it sealed properly.
I took it to the chrono and it was chrono'd from tuna perfectly. Within +-5 FPS Id say.
The trigger was unbelivebly light, and I really got hardly any chuffing all day. The 8 guys or so there all had a go on the trigger, 2 of which currently owned mags without retro or ULT and all were amazed. 1 Guy was even able to walk the trigger quite nicely. Just some background info, in the 3 or so months Id been waiting for this Id taken tons of crap about Mags suck blah blah blah.
That shut 'em up
All in all it was a good day of playing, eveyone who used it liked it, and all were impressed by looks. Talked to a few other mag owners there and directed them over to lovely AO, so hopefully they show up sometime or another.
Many thanks again to Tunaman and Nicad for makin this possible and for everyone here for all the help on decding what to get.
Im swapping my flatblack chordv2 for a gloss black one here sooner or later, so Im gonna have to tune my own LX and ULT. EEEEEEEK
But DAMN this gun is nice, and DAMN that was a lonnnnnnnnnnng post.
Cheers,
Pat Smith, Mag owner for LIFE.
