    Paintball in the Snow

The first major storm of the year here hit.

Anybody else think that freezing temperatures adds to the experience of PB?

Playing in the snow isn't all that fun. Mud/Rain now that is fun. I used to live in Utah and nothing's worse then running for a bunker in a foot of snow.

I've played in the snow a couple times up at my cousin's place in their big field. There wasn't more than a few inches of snow so it didn't make running hard at all and it was awsome to do 10-15 slides like it was nothing. I used to have some pictures of some of the snowbunkers me made but i'm not sure where they went.

Paintball in the winter is great!
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, you know?

Here's a pic from a quickie game-day a few years ago (okay, it was winter '98/'99) where we spent a few hours with some shovels and buckets packing snow into blocks, making bunkers, then played a couple of games.

It was about 34 degrees F that day, which up here is practically T-Shirt weather. (Note my rolled-up sleeves.) It was just a quickie pick-up game, so I was shooting my Carbine on CO2. Worked fine.

Back when I used to own a field, we'd be open even in the winter, as long as it was warmer than 20 degrees. We'd have days where twenty people would show (which, back in '96 and '97 in this little town, was a good group even for the summertime.) We had a burn barrel for a little heat, and naturally everyone knows how to dress.

Surprisingly there weren't that many more bouncers, either from the cold or the heavy clothes. I remember the first time we used Polar Ice, a "magic ball" came sailing out of nowhere at me, from a guy shooting nearly 130 feet away, and it broke neat as you please on the chest of my puffy down jacket. (I was reffing.)

                Doc.

I always found tripping to be the biggest problem. Nothing sucks worse than getting shot while facedown in the snow.

I finally got some of my local buddies to get into paintball. I hope you get them playing some woodsball in the snow. I live in the NH boondocks where you'll be wading through snow if you want to get anywhere. I think that'd be pretty sweet.

The only snow game I remember playing was a 1-on-1 speedball game in '91. There was 4" of snow, it was about 10 degrees out, and we were using .68 Specials. Needless to say, it wasn't tremendously pleasant. (Did you know broken blue Nelson will actually crystalize in a brass barrel? )

"You actually expect me to play in a field of balloons?"
