    automags and consitency.....

how consitent is your mag (honestly please)

and is there any way to make an automag more consistent? No one uses a another regulator on a mag, why not? Is the built in one really that good??

yes, the reg is "that good." I use to consistently get +\- 2 with mine and decent paint.

Consistency deals with tank and barrel match as well as the regulator...

The mag AIR valve is probably the best designed valve in the industry, air america uses a similar design on their raptor tanks

I get +/- 2 fps as well, my mag is my most consistent gun. I guess I'm matching my paint to the barrel good, but the AIR valve is very good. Also as Automaggin2 said others have copied the design because it is so good. The Automag reg seat is interchangable with the ANS Gen X2 reg seat. The design is almost identicle.

I generally chrono ten feet under limit... I have some fluctuation even with decent paint to barrel match, probably +/- 4

I've owned a minimag and e-mag. Generally, the velocity fluctuations is around plus or minus 3 fps of where I set it.

If you are having serious problems (more than 10 fps fluctuations), then try the following:

              1. are you using old, poor quality, or mixed batches of paint? even if you use the same brand of paint, different boxes of paint can contain slightly different sized balls.

              2. is your barrel too large for the paint you are using? If you put a ball past the nubbin and it rolls straight out of the barrel, that barrel is too large.

              2. is the valve getting enough air? ie any clogs/kinks in air lines, partially-opened on/off valves, set adjustable output tanks to 700-800 psi

              3. clean, lube and replace o-rings. (this is most often the cause of velocity issues). This is where the mags really stand out - simple and cheap to maintain.

              Good luck.

as budd orr says "90% of consistancy problems are due to the paint to barrel match"

however, of the remaining 10%, the mag does as good as anyone else

                    My 9-year old minimag (original valve with a Crossfire high-output tank) consistantly puts +- 2 over the chrono. It's beautiful! 267, 267, 268, 267, 266, 268... etc. I love my minimag.
