Just a suggestion- why not drop the total shot count and instead have a resettable shot counter that only counts shots in ACE 1 and 2... that way you could get an accurate measure of paint usage as it would discount dry shots- something I've often wished I had.
Alternatively, assuming the eye is always active, it could instead count shots in all modes (ACE 0,1,2) that occur when there is a ball over the eye. Again, that would discount dry shots and give an accurate paint counter.
