There's no wrong answer to this...

Personally, I'd go with the Sniper2 over the Sniper3. The weight isn't that much more and having the pump under the barrel rather than around it makes a big difference on the Cocker body. The downside of both Sniper models is that they're made with modern Cocker bodies. That means a vast cavern of space outside of the valve to allow for LP. That's great if you'll be using CA, but if you want to run CO2, plan on getting your tank anti-siphoned and installing a regulator if you want your velocity to be anywhere near consistant.

Phantoms are awesome too. A lot lighter, comes with autotrigger, and you've got the versatility to do Stock Class if you want. Personally, that's about all I do anymore. I just find that the lower profile is worth the slightly lower ROF.

I'd also check out the Illusion. It's got a lot of similarities to the Sniper 2, but it was designed from the ground up as a pump. The valve is tuned to be CO2 friendly, and can also switch to Stock Class by switching threaded feeds.

And don't forget the good ol' PGP. Compact, accurate, efficient and built like a brick s**thouse. On the older ones, look for a speedchanger to make the 12g changes more manageable and a quickloader. On the new ones, you'll want an aftermarket bolt (available from CooperT and customizers) to make up for a very common manufacturing defect (otherwise, a very nice little gun).

you need to be more specific on what type of pump play you intend to do.

Stock? Open? 12 gram? co2? compressed air?

Sterlings are great and are relatively inexpensive for open pump on CA or air.

I like snipers personally, but thats becuas ei shoot cockers

Phantoms rock, I have a VSC (stock class)...

I am not a big illusion fan, but thats preference, they are good guns.

PGPs are very fun, as are all other brass pumpers (Palmers makes some great ones).

I still use one of my 2 Phantoms when I play rec ball around here. They are both dead on accurate.
I am trying to work a deal with a guy for a Sterling. I've shot one of those recently and they are great guns too. You can just do a lot more with Phantoms.

Best bang for the buck?

Phantom hands down. Stock parts work perfectly, including the stock barrel. And for more versitility there's the CCI Nickel Plated barrel which is well priced ($44 USD I think). Customer service is top of the line as well and you can get all these with very nice adonized finishes (colors other then black are +$20 when you order. Acid washes are +$30. Guess prices are so low since he just keeps the raw bodies around and anodizes them right when you order direct, so no worry about having to strip previous finish).

The Sniper II (I'd go for the 2 instead of 3) is also very nice. Coolest thing about it IMO is that you can order all the parts seperate and build the pump from scratch. Almost every type of barrel out there has cocker threading nowadays, so that gives you a huge variety of what kind of barrel you want. You can adjust the trigger pull to suit your tastes. And a big plus is that it's a completely modular system (you can convert to semi auto if ever the need, or even electro. Though that's quite a bit of $$).

get a phantom, i have shot most of the pumps out there. my local shop specializes in pumps. i have never had any problems with my phantom, there is only really three parts on the inside of the gun that make it fire, it is also very easy to clean. if you deside to get a sniper get the 2 one. the j2 pump is suppose to be awsome but i havent tryed it, and its not cheep.

For open class you will not go wrong with a Sterling, they are a hybrid design of the Phantom and Sniper, way smoother than either, a lot more fiddly to adjust the power output but way better. I own a Phantom and a Sterling and have used Snipers didn't like them as they way too heavy and no auto trigger (even when adapted to have one they didn't work smoothly) cost wise the Phantom has the edge no doubt, but the Sterling will out perform the Phantom.
