    Removing Anno

Is there an inexpensive way to remove the annodizing, say on a barrel?

yes, i think i read an article about sticking your parts in laundry detergent and putting it in the microwave or something.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE ATTEMPT THAT!

    OR

You can send it to sexyturtle.com and we will remove it for you for a small fee

Drano Crystals (only the crystals work)in warm water.

Do it outside! The fumes are a killer!

Use ice tongs and wear rubber gloves. The parts get very hot. Start off slow soaking the part for maybe 15 seconds. Wipe the part with a rag. If no anno comes off soak it for a bit longer. It does'nt take long. The main thing is to not leave the part in the drano for too long. The anno can actauly cook back onto the part in a spotty mess and it's a pain to get back off. If the solution starts to get too cloudy with anno then empty and make a fresh batch.

After it's stripped polish it up and it'll almost look stainless.

Not if you don't strip the control bore on a 2 piece. It would pretty well screw up a 1 piece, or at least change the bore size and make the interior rougher.

The unannoed aluminum is more prone to dings and scratches.

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but come on people seriously do a seach, people ask this question about once a week. Use the search function and put in 'stripping anno" and you will find lots of ways to do so. I think there needs to be a sticky for removing anno cause this is crazy.

The safer way? Oven cleaner, easy to control and not as messy.

Now, I could easily be mistaken (and often am), but didn't you do this in the bathroom sink of your hotel room at Mardi Gras last year?

And that's how I know the fumes are a killer.

you relley want to use 100% lye.

from what i have found only red devil still makes a 100% lye.

the rest of what load said is correct..

from the judge in the WDP v Sp case.... " i find it significant that aside from a somewhat limited notebook produced by gaston, the four named inventors offer NO documentation of there work or there contributions to the conception or reduction to practice of the claimed invention"

Good point. I did find out the red devil worked a little better than Drano.
