    technically yes.

But no one should fill it, there in lies the problem

I have a tank with hydro date 11/00 and is a 3 year hydro. Can I still use the tank or is that a big NO NO and very dangerous?

          If you're using a tank that's out-of-hydro...

You're asking for someone to sue you for every penny you have and ever will have.

And it's illegal to fill it. Or sell it, or trade it, or....

Basically, pay the $15 and get it tested.

i heard they slice your tasnk in half and send it back to u. IF this is true do u have to buy a whole new tank or just a cylinder and keep the old reg.

you paid $200 for the nitrogen system. Pay $15.00 to get it re-hydroed.

YES, it is illegal to sell it (even buyer knowing) or fill it or do pretty much anythingwith it.

IF it fails hyrdo test when you ship it off, you will have to buy another tank and that tank will be condemed. You will be able to keep the reg though.

Because you are holding a HIGH PRESSURE tank in your hands, if it split or blew up.... you'd be in a WORLD of hurt.

because that is what the federal government (DOT) says.

These tanks hold up to 5000psi of air. Thats a LOT of force. If it were to explode, you and everyone around you would be not doing so well.

They need to be checked every so often to make sure that they are still safe to hold pressure.

                          Outta Hydro

I don't think it's illegal to SELL an out-of-hydro(OOH) tank, just to fill one. The theory is what if the tank passed a hydro test, then no problem what so ever. Then again, this is the DOT, *shrugs*.

If a tank is OOH and your thinking of buying one then try to get a money back guarantee from the person selling the tank, if they won't give you one then go somewhere else.

If you DO buy a tank that is OOH then I HIGHLY recomend you get it tested before you use it.

Bad tanks are dangerous, I believe I've heard of 120lb tank that launched itself several hundred feet into the air when the neck of the valve seperated(not sure if I remember it right). It is possible that they can act like grenades when they rupture. Not good.

well unfortunately ( or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) it is not up to what you think. the DOT regulations are there for a reason. will you get caught selling an out of hydro tank??? prolly not, doesn't make it legal. if you are are caught. it is a $10,000 fine and up to 5 years in jail. not worth a $15 hydro test.
