Well see, I have no problem with things being made overseas (well, I do, but only because of the jobs that we are missing out on in America, but this is an entirely different topic all-together), but the question was:
Does DYE use sweatshops (shops where what are essentially slaves make clothing all day)?
I've gotten my answer, which is No (acompanied by laughter), and I'm happy. Thanks all for reading/replying.

...and we were simply stating that "assembled in the USA" is more appropriate. We never said that it being manufactured outside the USA was a bad thing, or that you should go and spend tons of cash trying to get an "all american" computer... just that *THAT* computer, was more than likely made outside the USA. Not our fault you can't stop to think a second that we aren't insulting you, but instead just giving a comment. Somehow, we're the retards though

No, I don't doubt you have a computer with a little flag sticker that says "Made in the USA" on it. However, I question what "Made" in this case means. For instance, does it mean the motherboard, cpu, ram, harddrive, etc were all produced here in the US, and the entire computer was put together here in the US? If so, then great... you truely do have an "all american" computer. However, I find it much more likely, the motherboard, CPU, harddrive were produced in some foreign country, shipped here, then the computer was assembled here, then the sticker put on.

For any kind of large-scale production, especially of soft goods like shoes and pants, there's no way an American company, paying it's employees a fair wage, and having to conform to everything from Unions, to OSHA, to Unemployment Insurance to the Clean Air Act, can compete with a Chinese, Taiwanese, Indonesian or Vietnamese 'sweatshop' that has to pay no insurance, has no official/federal oversight, pays it's employees the equivalent of $2 a day, and can dump its refuse and wastes in an open pit somewhere.

And if you think that's a "bad" thing (keep jobs in America, etc) then I suggest you take a real close look at the PC you're sitting in front of. I'll eat my hat if more than maybe five percent of it- if that much- was made in the US.

The fact of the matter is, whether or not they're "better", American-made goods cost more. And American consumers have time and time again gone for the cheap and not-quite-as-good import over the better-quality-but-three-times-the-price American product.

Levis Jeans just closed their last US plant to move their production overseas- and the entire reason for it was because consumers are buying up all the $35/pair jeans they can find, even if they're a little lower in quality, over the American-made $50/pair jeans.

Levis was operating at a loss for the past two years to keep their price even that low. Wrangler and others have been using overseas labor for years, and they're making a healthy profit on a price lower than Levis.

                          Doc.
Actually, Doc, To be precise... AFAIK, There is only ONE Mainboard Manufacturer that is actually based in the US (Tyan. Possibly Intel, but I'm not sure about that one.) The Rest are based in Taiwan or China. MOSTLY Taiwan.

For that matter, most of the parts are made in Taiwan, or Japan. Some parts are Also made in Korea. (Samsung Equiptment comes to mind, as well as monitors from many companies.)

You know, though, the problem isn't so much the fact the stuff is made overseas. It's the fact the stuff is made overseas in a country that has a much lower standard of living, and cost of living for that matter. They can get away with paying these people less, because they don't NEED as much money as we do.

Case in Point: Mainboards made in Taiwan. Taiwan has a relatively similar Cost of Living. A Mainboard From, say, Asus (A Highly Respected Mainboard Manufacturer based in Taiwan,) costs more or less the same as a similarly configured mainboard from Tyan (The aforementioned US Based Mainboard manufacturer, which is also highly respected.) BUT, a Mainboard Manufactured by, Say, PC Chips ( A Chinese Based Manufacturer,) Is much cheaper. Ironically, even in the world of electronics, The products seem to be of a lower quality.

Guess which country Dell's motherboard manufacturer is based out of. I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with 'ina.'

                          Anyway, there's my rant.

Ina ehhh? How about Pina? Fine, I give up. Anyways, I believe tippmann makes their guns in the US BUT from what I have heard they don't really make much money on their guns, they get most of their money from people buying upgrades for their guns.

Japan is OK, they have labor laws a lot like ours. It's China, Taiwan etc. that are bad.

****, I'd rather them make my products in sweatshops so i don't have to pay as much. I don't care where it was made, I was just saying that it probably was assembled in the US, and not completely made here. You, sir, need to grow up. There is no need to get all defensive. I was just saying that it was PROBABLY just assembled here, but I could be wrong. I wasn't expecting you to take your case apart, I also don't recommend getting an all American made computer. I wouldn't even want a 100% American computer. Japanese technology > American technology
