anyone who cares about the sport of paintball would be against this, except for the loyal SP fans. For those guys that just means lower prices and all the new goodies SP can steal and patent.

Everyone else that says so what, for lack of a better term, you are retarded (not derogatory, just speaking out).

I guess this is where tom needs to come in and start patenting some of his ideas, and let everyone use it except for SP :] :] :]

From reading the patent, I understand that the trigger is an open cuircut.
It's like all those little toys were you have to touch both contacts to get it to work.
The trigger is the positive lead and the frame is the negative, when your finger contacts both the trigger and the frame at the same time the marker willl fire.
So there in all reality be no trigger pull at all, just touching the trigger would set it off(major safty consern IMO).

And yes SP does need a good taste of their own poison.

Why is it only a pb company gets flak for getting a patent? It's what business in America is. If no one has to develop new things, and just use the other guys stuff without having to work at it, well, thats called communism.

I think this is because there are a lot of people @ AO that care deeply about paintball. More then the average Joe Sixpack over at pbnation or of the sorts. I am not disrespectiong others at other boards, but I am just saying that we may be concerned about the sport in the long run or something like that.

There is no mention of a sear in this patent. This (from my estimation) is a new type of trigger mechanism. There is specific language in the patent that refers to the activation of the trigger only being possible with the touch of the operators skin or a specially designed glove. It also states that the trigger could not be activated in any other way. I don't see this patent leading to a SP v Kingman/PMI/BE etc. The assertion that this particular patent will crush the PB industry is very Chicken Little-esque. I find SP reprehensible for the way they conduct business. One would hope that the sport would come before business but we all know there are few companies left that operate like this. I just hope that before we organize an AO Lynch mob all the facts be laid on the table.

I may be wrong about this being a new trigger type I am not a master tech and make no claims to be a patent attorney. I did however read the majority of the patent document and I will state again I saw NO reference to a sear. I encourage all of you to check the link provided. There is a link there that leads to the actual patent. If I missed the reference to a sear I apoligize for my rant but I'm pretty sure I didn't miss it.

                      touch activated lamps

The way I read it, it's a patent for a new trigger mechanism only -- a no-moving-parts trigger that's touch sensitive. Much like the touch-activated lamps you see once in a while, or the shutter release on the old Minolta Maxxum cameras.

If by dropping in price, you mean going from $250 to $350, your right.

But why would they patent that if that type of trigger mechanism isnt tournement legal?

                            Holy cow.

Talk about Overreactions. As other people in the thread have said, This is NOT trying to patent the basic concept of a trigger switch. This is actually a VAGUELY new concept, albiet one that is not tournament legal by the sound of it.

Which brings me to my point... Some of you guys just made yourselves look VERY overreactive. There was a good Whole page or so of whining before someone else finally said "Hey, this doesn't look that bad." Because it doesn't. It's some lame trigger setup that any EE Student could have come up with. I'm suprised noone bothered to patent it before.

You are right. These type of patents are wrong because they limit true inovation.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
