Well, they let me wear mine at Skyball.
As for the 'bounce factor', I've tried both, and got more bounces out of Dye pants. Sure, you get bounces in the area between your legs and where it flares at the side sometimes, but that would be a complete miss with pants on. The legitimate reason I can see is that the pleating can sometimes hide a hit.
I too, own and use a Sportkilt. If you get one of these, pony up for the poly/cotton blend rather than the straight cotton. It looks a lot better. The downside of these is that they're held on solely by velcro, and have only a 'swim trunks' style internal pocket. Looks like you're scratching yourself when you try to fish out your keys. Damn comfy, tho.
I also have an Amerikilt http://www.amerikilt.com - I actually like this one better. The belt loops and snaps give you better 'anti-pantsing' security, and it comes with a wallet pocket and sporran. The pleats are also sewn so that you can get away with machine washing it. The down side is it doesn't have the flexibility of the Sportkilt, which uses an elastic wasteband. It also costs more.
Thene there's the utilikilt http://www.utilikilt.com - I don't have one, but hear they're very nice. Built tough, and with built in cargo pockets. These cost a fair amount, but everyone I've heard from that owns one says they're worth it.
