    HPA Mini-Scuba - Like Mossman's

This has probably been covered numerous times, just like everything else but here it goes anyway.

Local shop/field closed down. Club here at school has a CO2 fillstation and tanks in the works, but no HPA. Now I was just going to buy a 2nd hpa tank and get both filled when i go home, but my roomate and a few others use HPA also.

Booster is out of the question. I started looking at scuba tanks and i think a 3k mini tank (maybe 50-80 cu/ft) is around $150 (haven't shopped around yet). Now I'm sure theres been threads on how many fills I could get out of this and what pressures and all that, so I can find those later (unless you really would like to tell me )

After I get the tank, What kind of fill adapter will i need to buy, and whats the approx cost?

I watched one of Mossman's old video's when he got his kapp flame bodied trix that didn't quite work right. In mid video he filled his hpa tank off a mini-scuba, and gave me the idea.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but wouldn't he want more than a "40ci"? You must mean ft.
Anyways I use an 80 cubic ft scuba and there are days where I wish I had another one or something larger.
Don't go small you will have no problems with a regular scuba, get more than one if you can. I promise if more than one person is using it you will not regret it.

As for the cost, if your getting an 80cuft 3k for 150, I'd say its a good deal. I had to pay 185 plus tax for mine, plus the cost of a boot and the mesh. (there is only one dive shop in town). Scuba adapters can be found at most online stores, they are all basically the same, I got one for 39 bucks. That is all you will need.

you will need to make sure the fill adapter fits your tank, there are 2 main styles of valves for scubas. however, if you are talking about getting a 3k scuba, then it will have the most popular valve, and use the most popular adapter.

$150 is a pretty good price, however, id shop around a bit and maybe find a scuba thats in hyydro but used, sometimes you can get them for around $60

i have a 100cf 3500psi tank(heavy cause its steel), these normally sell for around $300 new(cause of the special valve) but i picked it up used from a paintball store that was going out of business and got it for $100 including the fill adapter(worth $70)

            www.diversdirect.com has 80 cu/ft tanks for 150 + only 11 dollars shipping.

Was lowest price i could find. Those are for new tanks.

They also sell used ones with recent hyrdos on ebay for around 100-115 + 11 shipping.

as far as the fill adapter, any recommendations? around $30 would be nice.

I plan on buzzing by the local dive shop to check what they have. Maybe even some back home over spring break.

just to let you know. there are some scuba shops that give paintballers a bad time. meaning they won't let you fill a tank there unless you are scuba certifed with padi or something similar. there's been a few occasions where i've had to show my padi card before the owner would let me fill my tanks. just letting you know, not trying to scare you away or anything from buying a tank.

Just another suggestion, drive by you local VFD, most have cascade systems for tank filling and we're always rotating out SCBA tanks (mostly 4.5)
Its worth a shot, and why your there you can volunteer!

                        another idea

Look on eBay. I picked up an 80cf for $85.00 to my door. and it was in hydro and visual
looking at most tanks they are aluminum and only need to be hydro'ed every 5 years, but need visual inspection every year. My local scuba shop charged me $15.00 for a visual and fill.

Thought this might help for information.

Thanks for reminding me, I've got to get mine visually inspected. I've also been considering picking up a second tank, for cascading, because the field closest to me does fills from scuba tanks, and tanks usually only get a 2000 psi fill (although they let you bring your own scuba tank too).
