Paintball Etiquette-- Tip or no tip?

I was just thinking about this on Sunday. Should we, the players, tip the ref at the end of the day?

In a private game, I'd say yes. Or even if you were walk on with a large group. Otherwise, I don't, because there are like 8 refs walking around, and they keep switching who refs which games, and then sometimes we play speedball without a ref, etc.

With a private game, at most fields, you have your own ref or two all day. Best bet is to get a couple bucks from everyone ahead of time, and slip the refs like $50 before the day begins. This eliminates "bitter ref syndrome" where they are bitter they have to work and take it out on you It also means you all get to chase the annoying kid down while the ref holds the kids gun and laughs.

I have never tipped the ref during walk on games, But for private games, we always throw in an extra two or three bucks each to tip the ref!!! It adds up to $50 or $60, like Thordic said, makes for a happy ref!!!

Save your tips for when he does a paintcheck on you.

I don't tip the ref, but I do give a lot of paint to some of the poorer refs, when they play, especially to Squirtle at Sgt. Splatter's.

I think the tip generally depends on who's side the ref is on.

I've never tipped, but then again, I've honestly never thought of it. At least I try to do my part to help them by fair play and helping the rentals when I can. I may not help much, but I don't hinder! (much)

i have never thought of tipping a ref, in a private game i guess it would be appropriate but if it was a open game i wouldn't.

im a ref, and usually i get a 15-20 tip at the end of a private party that i ref. on open play, i dont get tips b/c we switch off reffing open play. so, if its open play, no need. if its a private party, then it would be nice to tip the ref who worked your games, we arnt paid particularly well by our fields(most of us in paint/day of work, the rare few(me included)at minimum wage)

very seldom have I had someone ref who deserved a tip. Where I go the refs don't even care about what's going on in the games. One of the times we had good refs, we bought a few rounds at the bar afterward for one of em. It was actually fun, we traded stories and did he have some good ones.
