    Full test in three weeks..

I'll give you my full opinion in a few weeks. I custom ordered a Series Five from Chipley with there new 86degree grip frame and Chipley's carbon barrel set. I should have it in a few weeks. After I shoot it a few times I'll post up my full review.

why does closed bolt operation warrant the use of a nice barrel kit with excellent p/b match and open bolt guns don't need to worry so much about the p/b match. And the bench setup doesn't apply to me guys, I play with my gun on the field not cooped up up in some damn lab! So let's have results based on field conditions please.

Closed bolt markers want a nic paint fit so the paint doesnt roll out the barrel. Open bolt guns have "ball detents" that prevent the ball from rolling out the barrel so the paint fit isnt as important.

and the 1" control bore is far from new. OTP made its original inserted barrels with about 1/2 inserts to prevent rollout, then they made the "dream series." LAPCO makes barrel sizers that have about an inch of control bore as well.

I have used the switch kit and it shoots very well. Well enough that I have one on order. It shoots IMO far better than a freak, and shoots just as good as any other barrel. I will be running some tests on efficiency and consistancy when it arrives.

I still find it amazing when people "review" a product without actually seeing it or use it.

all you guys are buying into the hype of ultra light and "control bores" and all that crap. All I'm sayin is that I run a classic mag with a dye stainless, an ANS G2, a J&J stainless, and an armson pro. Total cost for my "barrel kit" is about 60 70 bucks and the only problem i have found is finding big enough paint for the PRO. Anyways, im tired of typing, I just thought that id try and give you guys a reality check. Its the player, not the marker.

I think maybe since you have a problem finding paint big enough you know why the rest of us with closed bolts want better fitting barrels/paint. I personally like to have the ball in the barrel when i pull the trigger, not on the ground after a rollout.

I dont think its an accuracy issue, but simply insurance that the ball will be there when i pull the trigger.

and like i said before, open bolt guns dont have this issue because of ball detents.

since consistency seems to be really important wouldn't a good p/b match take better advantage of the consistency of the reg by offering a nice snug fit around the ball to propel it forward at its maximum velocity? In a barrel where the ball fits loosely wouldn't a lot of the force of air be wasted by shooting past the ball?

p8nt_junkie: P-B match is especially important with regards to efficiency. Any gaps around the ball mean wasted gas. All the reasons you listed were good, except the amount of the force has little to do with accuracy, providing that force remains consistent.

so what other type of consistency are these guys talking about? I thought consistency had everything to do with the regulator. Isn't the the job of a regulator to deliver consistent pressure to the valve? I argue that p/b match is just as important as shot to shot cocnsistency of the regulator. Having the ball match the bore takes advantage of the shot to shot consistency of the properly performing regulator to (in effect) deliver the ball to the same spot time after time. Spending a littlemoney on a good barrel or barrels to achieve this shot to shot grouping is a good thing imo.

well i have a stiffi tip for my freak and i enjoyed playing with it. its very light and shot really well. i cant say it shot better than the freak front it replaced, but the tips dont have a heck of alot to do with that anyway.
