say bye to the sc ironmen?

    who should keep "ironmen"
    bob long, or dave youngblood?

    from Jim murray on pbc
According to rumors Bob Long has won the rights in court to the name "Ironmen". This means that the "SC Ironmen" of 2001 will have to change their name. Supposedly the name they have chosen so far is "The DYE Allstars".

This has been a hard fought battle between Bob Long and Dave Youngblood and the rest of the old SC Ironmen (and some of the new) ever since he had left/been cut from the Ironmen around 5/6 years ago (maybe more).

what do yall think bout this?
i don't think bob should keep ironmen, cause he left, even thought he was a founder of the ironmen?

its stupid...but he started the name so i guess they have to agree. But the allstars is cheesy like the Brass Eagle All-Stars..couldnt they cup up with something more creative than that.

Since I am an old "friend" of Bob' I'm probably biased, but it was always his team. In my opinion (I'm never humble) Dave doesn't have any rights to it. Dave filled in on my team once, so it's not like I'm totally biased (is it?).

I personally don't think it is a trivial issue.

On a side note, Ollie Lang the first youngest person to go pro has announced that he is leaving SC Ironmen and rejoining the IronKids on DIEnasty. I think between them and Strange, these two teams will probably be the ones to beat next year.

All that's missing is Yosh.. With Marty Bush retiring and maybe a few of the older pros like Rich and Shaner who also might be leaving, this may be the end of the era for SC. Let's hope not...

maybe not everything, but they sure do win a lot. they've set records that noone else has been able to match. known as the most winning team in paintball history, they didnt just come across it. they've earned it. i always thought Bob left the Ironmen as captain 6 years ago. i never knew much about a case against who got the name. the way i see it, Bob couldnt have just started a one man team, won and gotten people to join. in took all the talent that it had, put it together and created an awesome team. if Bob wants the name back, he has to take with it the legend. rejoin the team, recruit who he wants, whatever. but you dont just take a dynasty like that, swap out names, and keep going. there's tradition in those guys that is found nowhere else. i dont play tournaments, nor have i ever seen them play. but ive met an ironman, and ive read and watched them play and seen some videos. just from that, you can tell what kinda players they are. its to bad all this happened. Bob was probably one of the best captains there ever were...

Bob is still a great captain. Look at what he has accomplished since leaving the orignal Ironmen. He has been able to take amateurs, throw them into the pros and win.

I have friends and acquaintances on both teams, and I feel for both sides regarding the name. On a positive note, it's somewhat comparable to pro sports like football, baseball, and basketball. Take for example when the Baltimore Colts - lost the name to Indianapolis, but later got the Ravens. Fans and players alike get upset when their team moves cities. Now, they are proud to back the Ravens because of the success they've had. The Dye All Stars or whatever their name ends up as, will always have their loyal fans, gain new ones, and play with the same intensity they always did. It hinges upon how succesful they continue to be. People become attached to the legends and have built loyalties based on a name. Although a sore subject, I think it's a step forward for both teams.

              IMO

just out of curiosity, but wasn't Bob asked to leave the team? (kicked off?) That's what I had heard a few years back, but never really had it verified. Anyone have a real answer to it other than opinion?

Bob used to be one of my favorite players but since he started to endorce 32 degrees products and put his name on spyders and all my respect for him has gone down it just seems he sold out to his sponsors. I still think bob is a great player and has accomplished a lot and is regaining his strength in the nppl again especially after last season. Only time will tell how he will go especially after switching to diablo paint.

The definitely had a falling out. I don't know all the details, but if I get a chance I'll ask him. Don't count on it though, he is never around.

Hey Lentz, just because he has a sponsorship, doesnt actually mean he uses there products all the time, 2instances: i seen a team at NPPL D.C. Cup in 1994, who at the time was sponsored by J&J barrels. For some reason at the tourney they were sporting Armson Pro Barrels on their mags and cockers, they lost sponsorship due to a team Photo taken at this tourney and published in a national magazine. #2.) Same team, paint sponsor's paint was shooting crappy, so they bought pro-ball, exchanged paint into sponsred paint boxes, and continued thru the day. I dont know if there were any consequences with the paint tho. The point here is "It always doesnt seem what it truly is", meaning just because it says 32degrees, It doesnt always mean its actually 32 degrees......... just a thought !!!

I wish SC could keep thier name.....

FYI, Bob Long was NOT the origional captain of the Ironmen. And I cant remember if Dave was the captain (but I doubt he was).

They BOTH should change thier names to keep it even. BL has no more right to the name as does Dave.

(PS, my information about BL not being the captain came from Bob himself......I have a video of him back in 92 talking about how he was on another team and got recruited by the Ironmen)

+ as far as I've heard (not quite sure), but I believe the reason Bob left the Ironmen was thier was a dispute as to what kind of games they should play (Bob wanted woods, Dave wanted speeball)...So they split up so each could do thier own thing...But thats what someone told me....Not sure bout it.

Bob Long was not the original capt. A few years ago Bob was playing for the (original) Ironmen but right when Dave Youngblood became capt, but Bob said that he would leave the team if he wasn't made captain, and the team told him he could leave. DY took out the trademark on the name "Ironmen" a little bit before BL left, but BL filed a legal mothin to halt him. His plans were clear: the Ironmen may have been done wit him, but he wasn't done with the Ironmen. To him, the Ironmen was still very much his team, and he planned to rebuild under the same name. A nasty legal battle devoloped over who controlled the most recognizable team name in paintball. In the end, it was decided that Bob would own the rights to " BL's Ironmen" and DY would own the " SC Ironmen."

I got some of the stuff out of the Aug issue of P8nt

BTW, i think the Bob is the one that should change the name. SC Ironmen already had a long reputation.

Dave Youngblood was originally from Team Navaronne, the team a from Cali, back in the 80's. One of his teamates is the famous Rick ScHroder, from NYPD Blue.
