I recently purchased an AM-P Illusion pump marker. Now anyone who knows me, knows that I have played paintball for 12yrs. In those 12yrs, I have never actually owned a pump. Crazy huh?? Anyway, I finally got to take it out to play yesterday. I have to say this is one of the nicest pumps I have ever played with. I have used a lot of pumps in my years(just never owned one
) and IMO the only pump this comes close to is the Sterling. From what I have heard, the AM-P Illusion is basically a Snipper II with Sterling internals. Now, how much truth there is to this, I don't know. I have never seen a Sterling apart. The pump action is VERY smooth due to the dual cocking rods, the trigger pull is crisp, and the weigh really isnt bad with a full hopper and the 47/3k tank I was using. Now there were a couple drawbacks, the trigger was indeed crisp, but very heavy pull. The stock barrel is basically a useless piece of alum, and the feed neck was tall and the hopper retention was done by orings inside the neck(easily fixed with a RogueFactor Strangler
) Other than that, I had a blast with it.
My first game started out just hitting the elevated part of the field that was gown over for the most part. I'm standing on the hill, there is a indentation in the middle of this hill that they call a firebase. I start trading paint with a guy with an A-5/flatline, we were some good distance away and basically taunting each other with trading paint. We both knew we couldn't hit each other so we just tried to catch each others incoming shots(quite fun actually)
We grew tired of that and decided to call a truce and move to different positions. As I did that there was a small village with small huts and houses, one of which backed onto this hill. I looked in and saw 3 newbs in there, so I decided to give them a chance, I yelled at them and showed them my armband, they did nothing. I yelled "YOOHOOO... I'm red....", nothing. Now for a second I'm thinking they are on my side, but they start firing at one of my players in this firebase. So I give a warning shot, and taunt them some more(taunting is fun
) Nothing. *CLICK* *PLUNK* "OUT!" one down, *CLICK* *PLUNK* "OUT!" two down, *CLICK* *PLUNK* "OUT!", three down. All without a single shot fired at me. I then take a bit of fire from another building, duck and then return fire into some windows, "OUT" "OUT" 2 more.. Man, I feel like Ahnold in any one of his gunfight scenes... I'm shooting all these people with a pump and they aren't shooting back! WEEEE I stay there and let my other teamamtes sweep the buildings as I lay "coverfire"
We capture the flag and win the game. Basically the rest of the day was the same, never really ran into the guy with the A-5 again but I had fun with the new Illusion.
I decided to put my last pod into my Xmag and give it a little loving too. first game, HORN - RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIPPP - OUT OF PAINT - DONE - BUNKER A KID OR TWO WITH AIR(also quite fun
) then I leave the field.
All in all, and great day of sunshine, good play, and funny stories.
Summary, Xmag uses TOO DAMNED MUCH PAINT!!!!
*wonders if Tom and the other semi companies got a little kick back from the paint manufacturers*
AM-P Illusion gets a thumps UP in my book.
