AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
For sure use only Plexus spray on paintball lenses.
Or water. Here it is from an instruction sheet that comes with a new lense from company X that says it meets or exceeds ASTM Standards
Caps = BOLD Font
ALWAYS CLEAN X LENSES WITH PLAIN WATER OR PLEXUS* SPRAY! NEVER use anything else. WARNING: NEVER use cleaners such as windex*, 409*, Simple Green*, Fantastic*, Gasoline, Kerosene, etc. The strong chemicals will attack the lens and cause it to break. If your X lens contacts any chemical substance or chemical fumes, THROW IT AWAY. Replace it with a new X lens for your protection. NEVER take chances.
The pros arent really using Rain X* Are They???? lol
Does the part never use anything else answer your question?
Heres a quote from part of an ad from company Y winter catalog 2004
"Tested at twice the current ASTM impact standards for safty. Good protection is key.
Which lens do you want? The one that meets or excedes or the one that is tested at twice the standards??
Lexon, lexan, plexiglass ?????????? If you take a gog hit on a bunker move at 10ft or less the lenses are toast, per ASTM, One company says 20ft. Hmmmm
Who is X and who is Y ?? What do the pros use again??
i prefer just plain ol water but i have on occasion used a mixture of water and alcohol. i havent seen any problems thus far, if my lens shatters and i lose an eye next weekend i will let you know.
I've known fields to use a diluted mix of water and rubbing alcohol to disinfect their rental masks. Those things get pretty nasty, its worse than bowling shoes.
The masks wear out and become unuseable long beofre it effects them.
Yuck rental masks. They are nasty. I forgot my mask one time and got a rental. It was sick. A hundred peoples sweat all up in the foam. Nasty. I always tell my friends who are gettin into the sport to buy a mask first. Besides most people have a spare gun to lend someone, but who wants to wear someone elses stinky mask.
exactly. the foam and the strap were the worst part. It would hold who knows how many peoples sweat. Also think of all those people breathing in there and it condensing on the mouth portion. I would never use a rental mask or allow any of my friends to. I always bring a mask for them at least.
I always use a Alcohol/water solution, it doesnt even seem to damage mirror finishes on lenses, I dont really think its bad for em, its not full strength, nor nearly as potnent at anything in 409 and similar, and makes for a nice quick, clean, streak free cleaning, also it doesnt hurt orings, over all, its not on there long enough...
I know Havok uses the same solution to clean there lenses...
now, stright alcohol, thats a diffrent story, Im sure it could have a faster acting effect of nastyness on it...but it would still take quite a bit longer then a cleaning chemical if Im not mastaken....

I didn't think alcohol was bad for them. It's not corrosive so it shouldn't hurt. I don't think.....I just wipe mine off the best I can then wash them when I get home with warm water.

you also have to look at the very sistive anti-fog coating alot of masks have. the alcohol eats right through it. I have had the same lens for about a year now. only ever used water to clean it and it is clean, clear, and the anti-fog coating STILL works.
