I don't think rec ball is "getting too serious", but there are a few jerks out there. It's why I very rarely play with strangers, except at big games.

It's also, IMO, another undesirable effect of the expansin of paintball, and the explosion of e-markers. It is now so easy and so cheap to throw an extra 10 balls at any movement or sound, that people are getting lit up more now than they did in the past. Veteran players like us know that it is just some trigger happy ***, and shrug it off (after a few curses). But for a newbie on his first day, it tends to deter them coming back for a second day.

I play on a relatively small indoor speedball field so bonus balling happens from time to time. Usually I accept it, but one time it was pretty bad. I got hit in the arm and called myself out. I was escorted off the field by two refs for some reason. Halfway off the field I got hit in the hand with a couple shots, entirely acceptable. However, three quarters of the way off the field the refs and myself got opened up on. I broke away from the refs and started screaming. I shouted over and over about the evident hearing imparedness of the opposing players. Something along the lines of, "You stupid morons! When I'm yelling 'I'm out, I'm out', I have my hands up and I have two refs walking me off the field then I'm probably out! Why is that so hard to understand you thick-skulled idiots!?" The game literally stopped for several seconds and the refs continued to walk me off the field as I composed myself. Afterwards I was feared as the "guy with the bad temper". Not my intention, but I didn't get bonus balled the rest of the night. I also calmly pointed this incident out to the head ref and he said he'd do something. There's really nothing he could do at that point, but that's ok. I think a little outburst of semi-controlled rage is needed from time to time on a rec field. I think everyone should try it, it's just so terribly empowering...

What day were you there? I was shot at while playing the fort and had a few shots that left welts a bit more painful than normal. I asked a ref to chrono the guy, didn't happen talked to Kurt the manager. He told me that the shots were under 300fps just by looking at my welts and there was no need to chrono the guy. Normally I don't argue but a shot from 25-30' dosen't draw the ammount of blood these did. These pics are from about 2 hours after the game and now the one on my neck is still swollen and bruised.

Edit: The pic of my neck looks better than what is really there.

Man gambit the one on you elbow broke skin and that is in no way under 300 fps. I have seen worse though, but since you went to the manager you should at least been obliged(sp?).

I would just stick to playing speedball and airball. The numbers are much smaller and there are usually more refs. It is a lot easier for two refs to control ten guys than it is to control 20+
It came to a point in my life when it was either pay the rent or buy paintball gear. I think I made the wise choice. If anyoneone needs me I'm livin in a van down by the river.

Hunt him down the next game and give a bit of payback.

We had a guy at the old Nashville Paintball Sports field when it was owned by Jim Lively that would do the same stuff. When you were leaving the field with your hand or gun up, he would give a nice up close bonus ball. He tried that with a friend of mine that had one of the old Bushmaster pumps with the removeable barrel. The friend, whipped the barrel out of the gun and thumped him on top of the head, hard, and told him that type of playing would lead to a further butt whipping if it continued. It finally cured our resident jerk.
It actually had a nice attitude adjustment effect on him.

Not a good plan. If anyone were to hit me like that, my next move would be talking to the cops.

Then again I wouldn't be bonus balling anyone in the first place

Sounds like recball wasn't taken serious enough if the manager didn't do anything about it.

If you want to support this, then go ahead and keep going back the field and spending your money there.
