    Metal barrel "bags"

What do you guys think about this idea...
Barrel covers that were made of metal? Basically it would be a metal pipe with an end on it. The inside would be covered in cloth or something so it wouldn't scratch up the barrel. The outside could be made to look like flames, swirls, I dunno, use your imagination. The downside would be that you couldn't just stuff it into your pocket like a cloth one, but it would look pretty unique. I might be able to start making some of these if nobody thinks of any big downsides. Whatcha think?

Eh. I know they have molded plastic box barrel stoppers. I've never seen one used.......

I wouldnt buy one. I hang my barrel bag around my gun during games. I don't want some big metal thing banging my gun up.

Too cumbersome. The bags/socks fit into a pocket nicely or just dangle from your guy.

Make them out of plasic then paint them. You dont have to worry about scratching the barrel and it would probably be easier to create a good paint job on. Good luck.

Too much of a pain. I keep mine in my pocket , last thing I need is something hard for a ball to break on. Plus for a narrow thin walled tube to be strong it would have to be steel iron or an exotic metal to be strong enough not to be squashed. Steel and Iron are heavy so you would have to resort to exotic metals like titanium and then the cost would go sky high.

Interesting idea, especially once you consider the fact that you could anno it with patterns, etc... on the other hand, the mere fact that it would be a pain having it in my pocket (literally) or it tapping against my barrel/body would also discourage me from using it. It's good in theory, but once you start looking at sales, that's where I think you might see a problem.

Yeah, the non-squishable part is the kicker. I was thinking along the lines of what could look pretty cool. I'm not trying to make a living off these, or even much of a profit. However, they wouldn't really have to be that thick, I mean what, like 3/16 or so? That's not that bad (I mean on the end, the sides could be way thinner). The possibilities of anno or powdercoat, not to mention the custom milling that could be done with it. Don't think this one will make it off the couch (I was watching TV when I posted). Might make one for myself, just to say I had one though.

I dont know but if you put it out on pbn you might get some sales. But if you add phrases such as,
                    "the latest in gun safety"
                    "the next step in gun"
"the barrel bag in the market"
"adds a thousand shots to a tank"
"the most efficient and fastest barrel bag in the world"
"the most technically advanced barrel bag in the world"
and you have start out your sales with it is only xxxx

sales could go through the roof

Personally I've tosed arround the idea of making one out of Chain Maile but I've never gotten my lazy butt out of the computer chair long enough to do it.

Bad idea, because the cover could become a projectile itself if it was fired into and the straps broke or something.

I actually think it could be cool as a show piece. Put it on the end of your marker when your not using it. Otherwise, I don't think it's practical.

                            LOL

i could make a chain mail barrel bag, but i doubt that there would be much of a market...

i think the idea would only be good for show if you have the gun on display.
