    Got a scoop/event?

Dallas, Texas based Odyssey and Mobile, Alabama based OGI have split. The two companies merged in a partnership of equals earlier this year.

In a phone call from an employee of Odyssey this morning confirmed that the two companies had split, and that Odyssey would retain ownership of the HALO loader design as well as the Odyssey line of markers, which currently include the O3 and the still-in-development O5. The source claimed that OGI in Mobile, Alabama was "completely shut down" and that the transfer of OGI's existing inventory would occur in due course.

I called OGI in Mobile to get comment on this breaking situation, and the OGI service tech said that any warranty items sent to the Mobile facility would be dealt with there.

I requested to speak with George Spurlock, and was transferred back to the receptionist on duty. I informed her that I was with the press and proceeded to ask her questions about the split. She too verified that the companies had split, and that contrary to what the Odyssey employee had told me, OGI was open for business and would be retaining ownership of the Dragun line of paintball markers. She claimed to not know any more details as to why the two companies had split, but earlier this year a source within the company when it was merged with Odyssey claimed that National Paintball Supply had the manufacturing contract to make HALO's for Odyssey, and since the merger had been "starving" them of parts and loaders to sell. Rumor abounded that OGI was in arbritration with NPS, and that it wasn't going well. Whether or not this potential litigation had anything to do with the breakup of Dragun and Odyssey is still open for speculation.

During the past week or so, both companies hadn't been returning phone calls, leading to distress amongst their dealers.

Ya know, I get the feeling Tom thinks that the players don't care. I think the ones in the know do care, but I think there are a lot more people that do not have a clue.

Thanks for the definitions What I was getting at is that the last few things I have heard come out of Tom's mouth (and/or fingers) were that the players don't care. I don't think that to be true. I think that if everyone knew, everyone would not support the legal actions. Maybe this means the people in the know need to educate the ones not in the know. Maybe passout flyers at events, wear shirts, etc. Organize like one of those wacko political groups, maybe that will get the point across. But, there are so many rumors out there, how do you spread fact over rumors? what are the facts? and how do you prove them as fact? If someone could point me to the "true" facts, I would put together a flyer and pass it out at all the events and fields I can, but I do not want to mislead people and spread false rumors.

So, who wants to get me the facts? All the info on...

well im sure there is a considerable difference in the amount you care when you own a pb related company vs just play. i am fairly in the know and i really dont care much. thus far with all the legal stuff there really hasnt been much affect on the players, sure the industry has changed but electros are still being built and sold for little if any difference in price. new products are still coming out and to the casual player things seem to be chugging right along. would things be different if i owned a company like agd, im sure they would, but for me the player life isnt much different now than it was 2 years ago.

I think a lot of players are interested and concerned about what is happening in the industry. But as individuals we don't have a any influence, and even together, the number of players who are interested and concerned enough to "vote with their wallets" is probably not enough to make a difference.

I notice too that the trend is Big companies bullying Little companies, and they already have our money before they start throwing their weight around. I notice that we are not seeing any shennanigans from the paint companies, who would be more vulnerable to a boycott.

In the end, this is all just part of how a free market economy works. The successful companies push out their smaller competition, until there are only a few companies left. How many US automobile companies were there 60yrs ago? How many are there today?
