Confused (cocker hammer question)

ive seen cocker hammers with nylocks (ie., jackal, eclipse, etc). whats the point to them? they lock the sear lug and cocking rod in place? i dont see how its possible seeing as you need to retract the sear lug all the way to get it in the body, then once its in there and you adjust the lug, how do they think your going to access the nylock?

im sure im missing something...please fill me in fellas.

The nyloc makes moving the various components difficult, but not impossible. The nylon set screws don't need to be adjusted, they're simply installed and the metal sear lug/cocking rod cut their own threads through them. So, once you have your sear lug adjusted perfectly, it won't move unless you put an Allen wrench through the top (or bottom if it's really old) and move it intentionally.

In the old days, you had to loctite the sear lug after you adjusted it. The nylon set screw is a definate improvement.

As for the nylon screw for the cocking rod, there are only a few that have those. Most are part of a system which eliminates the need to remove the cocking rod to change velocity. Examples being the old Taso hammer kit and the newer Eclipse Red Dialer. Because the rod no longer needs to come out to change velocity and a loose cocking rod after a game or two is common, they just add another nylon set screw for the cocking rod.

Shocktech makes a hammer where the sear lug's nylon set screw is threaded in from the rear, through the cocking rod's threaded hole. So, on the front side of the nylon set screw, it keeps the sear lug in place and the cocking rod is held in place when bottomed out against it.
