    Cocker talk - halfblock? turtle?

    What do all these mean?

I know some of them don't have backblocks or cocking rods, and some of them have different sear/hammer stuff....but other than that i have no clue.

So what do they each mean?

and what would a turtle halfblock race frame cocker go for?

turtles and halfblocks all should have back blocks and cocking rods. The lengths and sizes of them all should be quite small and varied among the different types. Pretty much they are cockers that are milled to the max... only leaving on the parts that are functional and therefore eliminating a lot of weight.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe they are the same. My friend owned both at the same time and they were quite similar.

As for the pricing... it depends for which cocker you are looking at along with the extras it may have. Do some research on AO on the "for sale" section or look at pbnation.com for a good estimate.

There is no "cocking rod" but with the turtle cocker the pin that holds the bolt extends down into the custom hammer so when the block moves back it pulls the hammer along with it.
Other halfblocks have a similar design of sorts.
The reason why I went with a turtle cocker is that it uses impulse bolts and pins instead of custom ones, easy to replace if anything goes wrong and the backblock is lightwieight delrin

Doc nickel also has his "fastback" cockers which are also a type of halfblock/shortblock cocker.
Martin paintball has their version and Proteamproducts has their micrococker.

I think the racegun site is www.racegun.dk which should have some pricing on there

Osiris appears to have a cocking rod... Although looking at their site further... they claim it doesn't... And yet the pictures of the gun appear to have one...
AFAIK, any cocker should have a cocking rod... The Karnivor doesn't, per se... But there has to be some device for the block to catch to pull the hammer back to the firing position..

Halfblocks are cockers that have had their rear ends cut down, and now the back block slides back and forth right behind the feed neck, making a lighter cocking mass, and a faster cocker.

Turtle cockers are a type of halfblock.

And as for the Osiris pics... the Osiris has gone through several incarnations in development, the pictures you're seeing are probably outdated.

As far as I know, PTP (Pro Team Products) made some of the fist "Micro-cockers". there have been others -few and fer between- but some of the more recent popular ones are Halfblocks, which are made by Racegun, and Turtles which are made by Bob Long (no, not THAT bob long). Man Id hate to have that name and be in paintball right now. Doc Nickel even makes a "fastback" which is similar but has a different approach for the backblock.

They all have the same overall look, and for the most part operate the same, with varying details of getting the job done.

                out!

Osirus cocker rules with the turtle mod... I was sponsered by them in Pan am. I hate cockers but i loved that one...
Its sorta like freing a timmy but a cocker....its just the way the half block is mounted on top of the orcacle body its in the some position as a timmy bolt..they mill the body on the oricale so the half block actauly slieds off the body it self and not a rod.... i liked it a lot cuz it never hit me in the face.
gota be carefull tho they can be bad blenders but most hte time there sweet as hell.

Ive got a Mini Merlin that I had mini-blocked by Martin. Absolutely one of the sweetest cockers made.
Wicked fast, and only chopped the very last ball outta my halo, but thats only cuz I dont have the eyes installed yet. When I get my VLM body back I think Im gonna get it turtled and ebladed.
                    Hmm...Raced Merlin Mini-block and Turtled Eblade VLM...sweetness.

                      Their so puuuurdy
